Host Matters! Improving high risk patient management

“Host Matters”! Improving high
risk patient management
Satellite symposium
Milano Biofilm Meeting, 19 June 2015, 2.30 p.m.
“The more we study the problem of chronic and recurrent infections
and particularly that of biofilm-related infections, the more we
understand that the host type plays a pivotal role both asbto concern
the susceptibility to infection and the possibility to heal, if infected.”
Prof. Dr. C. L. Romanò
Join the discussion on the options available for effective prevention
and treatment of prosthetic joint infections in patients atbhigh risk of
developing a post-surgical infection.
An interdisciplinary faculty of experts in fields of septic surgery,
infectious diseases, and antimicrobial biomaterials will update and
advance the knowledge around the following questions.
1. Who are patients at high risk and what are the challenges?
2. What are possible implications for prophylaxis and treatment
algorithms in high risk patients?
3. What are the limits of systemic prophylaxis in challenging
patients and which solutions do exist to improve antibiotic use?
4. What is the role of antibiotic loaded bone cements? What are the
differences between cements?
