THE ACORN BISCORNU
By Modern Folk
York, 13th of February 2014
It is the eve of St. Valentine's and I wanted to say thank you for
your support and the lovely letters and feedback that I've received
from you. It means the world to me, so as a thank you, I'd like to
offer this free Modern Folk pattern to you. I hope you will enjoy
stitching it as much as I enjoyed making it.
This little biscornu pattern is exactly the same size as A Quaker
Biscornu, and measures 65 stitches wide and high. It is, like the
Quaker Biscornu, inspired by Quaker patterns, but in part also by
Frisian embroidery. I incorporated some backstitch “eyes” that are
often seen on this type of embroidery.
A Quaker Biscornu is 65 stitches wide and high. Please see the
chart below for sizes in both inches and centimeters. The chart is
calculated assuming the pattern is stitched over 2 threads. Please
note that these are approximations: due to the uneven nature of
linen, your work might be slightly smaller or larger.

I stitch all of my designs using Simply Shaker and Sampler Treads by Te Gentle Art. I think this design
would look particularly pretty in Schoolhouse Red (7052), on 32 count Belfast linen (colour: Natural), by
Zweigart. Both thread and linen are available in my Etsy shop. If you do not see a particular colour of linen or
thread available, don't hesitate to get in touch, and I can see if I can order it for you. I stitch with only one
thread, as it gives the work a slightly open character.
If you have any questions or comments, don't hesitate to get in touch with me. I'd love to hear from you
and see what you have made. Enjoy your project!
With love,
Jacob de Graaf
