Calgary, Fall 2007
Recognizing that
not all comfort
foods are the same
to all customers,
this issue features
International
Comfort Foods.
Comfort Foods Go Global
F
or many Canadians, a basic comfort food menu would
consist of meatloaf and apple pie. It could also be defined
as fried chicken with biscuits and gravy. Others may list favourites
like lasagna, salad rolls, perogies or even fish and chips. Whatever
your roots, comfort food is familiar food that makes you happy.
To give a cozy fall favorite a whole new flavour, try adding
one or two new fresh ingredients into the mix. Here are a few
suggestions from our markets:
Enjoy Breakfast Morning, Noon or Night
• Turn a cheese omelet into a spicy Asian seafood experience
simply with a dash of Chinese 5 spice, or give it a Mexican flare
with fajita seasoned chicken, topped with guacamole and
salsa picante
• Add pesto to your eggs for instant Green Eggs & Ham
• Bacon, cheese and chives added to a basic cornbread recipe
creates a complete breakfast on the go
Make Back to School More Appealing with a New
Generation of Lunch Comfort Foods
• Add spice and flavour to a ham and cheese sandwich with
monterey jack or horseradish cheddar and grainy mustard
Read on to
rediscover your
favourite childhood
foods, each with a
slight Sunterra twist
on an original
recipe.
Sunterra — Helping
busy people enjoy
wholesome meals.
• Add Thai spices to traditional Chinese fried rice for new taste
• Slice apples and chop walnuts to add to your grilled cheese
sandwich
• Try some honey mustard or cranberry relish on a smoked
turkey sandwich for a distinctly epicurean taste
• Experience grilled PB&J with sliced banana! Prepare just like
an ordinary grilled cheese, add weight to the sandwich while
frying to keep the sandwich from shifting
Variety is the Spice of Life… and of Dinner
• Penne baked with smoked bacon and gruyere is so much more
tantalizing than plain old mac & cheese
• Simply add curry to your mom’s potpie for a new burst of
flavour
• Modernize an ordinary pot roast with a forest mushroom
sauce and port demi-glace
• Before cooking a beef roast, smother it with a freshly ground
coffee/herb rub
• Substitute beef in your classic meatloaf recipe with bison.
Side with mushroom gravy, grilled asparagus, and any jazzed
up potato of your choice

Many ingredients for Duchy Originals products
come from Duchy Home Farm in the UK, where
over 1900 acres of ingredients are farmed
organically. Duchy also sources premium
ingredients internationally when required,
such as lemons from Sicily, sweet oranges
from Andalucía and spicy organic ginger from
Australia.
Duchy offers a full selection of traditional
English sweet and chocolate covered biscuits —

Al Dente all Natural, Hand-Crafted
Pastas
Al Dente pastas come in 10 flavours including
non-traditional choices such as wild mushroom
and spicy sesame. Favourites include their
original egg recipe and fettuccini made with
fresh spinach. The noodles are exceptionally
light and delicate, cooking in a mere two to
three minutes. Al Dente’s dough is made using
a blend of semolina and extra-fancy durum
flour with fresh eggs. By sheeting the dough
(similar to creating pasta with a rolling pin) Al
Dente ensures that the finished product is as
close to homemade as possible.

custard-like filling is made with pumpkin
purée, eggs, fresh cream, sugar, and just the
right amount of spices.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Sunterra is once
again dipping succulent strawberries into pink chocolate, with
proceeds assisting the fight against Breast Cancer.
Cure Your
Cravings
Look for the strawberries at all Market Locations, sold individually and in
six-packs for sharing or to give as a gift.
Last October, our customers and team members helped raise over $5,000
for the Breast Cancer Foundation by feasting on these treats.
YOU CAN HELP! Brown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids asked schools to help eliminate hunger. Kids
acted by creating one-of-a-kind masterpieces on what else? Brown lunch bags. These bags will be sold at all
downtown Calgary Sunterra Markets on October 25 for a suggested donation of $2.00 with proceeds going
directly to the lunch program. Last year we raised almost $15,000 through this event and hope to top that
through your generosity and support. Visit brownbaggingit.org and
go to the “Kids Help Kids” link for other simple ways to help. The kids
helped. On October 25 it’s your turn.
Rewarding Customer Loyalty…
Please fill out a redemption form for these rewards. Forms are available in all our market locations or on
our website at www.sunterramarket.com.
A gift certificate will be mailed to you in approximately two weeks.

moroccan vegetable tagine
serves 4
Sunterra chefs recommend lamb, beef or chicken to accompany this dish.
For extra flavour, double the ingredients that form the paste to marinate your protein overnight.
Tagine is the name given to a fragrantly spiced stew,
as well as to the earthenware pot used to cook a dish of
this type in, pictured on the cover. If you don’t own a
tagine use a Dutch oven or covered casserole instead.
