A Message from the Padre
Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday, also called Passion Sunday. Saint
Gregory the Great puts Christ’s passion this way. He said: "…we must sacrifice ourselves to God, each day and in everything we do, accepting all that happens to us for
his sake, imitating his passion by our sufferings, and honoring his blood by shedding
our own… and lastly … We must also be ready to be crucified."
My dear brothers and sisters, the holiest week of the year begins this week. But the world does not stop.
Everything goes on — regular TV programs, regular work schedules, deadline for income tax … and so on. But, if
you want this week to be a “holy week,” start asking the question: How are we responding to God’s sacrifice and
His love for us? Are we making every effort to come closer to God? Are we truly repentant for our sins? And is
our faith in Jesus the greatest priority in our lives?
The Gospel reading set before us this weekend is a blueprint of the events, which we will commemorate in
the Sacred Triduum, a Latin word which means "three days."
So today we are invited to walk with Christ bringing our struggles and our own passion from a different
perspective – the perspective of the cross.
Let us look and reflect on Jesus’ passion, as he is welcomed with palms and praises, and hopefully, in Jesus’ sacrificial death on the cross, we may see the sacredness and glory of his love for us and in turn transform our
lives in holiness.

recognized for their outstanding commitment to risk their lives so we
can remain free. Members of our parish family are requested to provide the names of their loved ones so they can be remembered in our
prayers.

“Tenebrae”
Father Joe invites you for a Tenebrae Service. The service of
Tenebrae, which is Latin for “shadows” or “darkness,” provides an extended meditation as a way to mark Jesus’ dark
journey on the way to the cross. We are invited to enter into
the dramatic narrative of Jesus’ passion and crucifixion
through the reading of scripture, video presentation and the
successive extinguishing of light in the sanctuary.
Tenebrae services usually occur between Wednesday and Friday of Holy Week. In our Parish we will be having our Tenebrae Service on Wednesday night, April 1st at 7:30 PM.
This is a solemn opportunity to start Holy Week and reflect on
the passion and suffering of Jesus Christ. We hope all of you
can make it and everyone is invited.
Palm Sunday of the Passion of
the Lord Mark 14: 1 - 15: 47
What is the face of Christ presented to us in
the readings today? Is it the one plucked and
spat upon in the reading from Isaiah? Is it the
glorified one honored by the bending of every
knee in the hymn penned by Saint Paul? Is it
the one disappointed and abandoned by his own disciples and
left to die in ignominy on a cross? Or is it the one of whom
the centurion said, “Truly, this was the Son of God” Which
face do you see today?

Good Friday Collection
Christians around the world are united in
a special way during Lent, Holy Week and
Easter. Our hearts, minds and prayers are
also especially aware of the Holy Land.
Our parish, once a year on Good Friday, is called on to
support Christians in the Holy Land. Many Christians in
the Holy Land depend on the collection for their lives.
As a pontifical collection requested by Pope Francis,
the annual Good Friday Collection offers a direct link for
parishioners to be witnesses of peace and to help protect
the Holy Places. When you donate on Good Friday, you
are supporting Christians in the Holy Land.
Franciscans and others in the Holy Land are housing
and feeding the poor, providing religious formation and
education, maintaining shrines and parishes, and conducting pastoral ministry. For more information, visit:

Is winter starting to get you down and you find yourself getting a little edgy with your spouse? Perhaps you
deserve to get away to renew your relationship. Sign up
today for a Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekend and
get rid of the blahs.
The next weekends are April 17-19 and May 29-31.
For more information please call 609-742-4035 or email
