AALANA Diversity Symposium April 2015

As a result of our initial Diversity discussions at the All-Faculty Meeting in August, and in
response to recognized remedial action needed for the CEPH Self-Study Diversity criterion, the
Department of Biostatistics, Environmental Health Sciences, and Epidemiology voted
unanimously, in support of a plan conceptualized by Seyi Balogun (MPH-EPI student), to
organize and sponsor an AALANA Diversity Symposium in April, 2015. The plan is as follows:
AALANA Diversity Symposium
“Recognizing Under-40 AALANA Women as
Public Health Role Models”
April, 2015
Sponsored by: Department of Biostatistics, Environmental Health Sciences, and Epidemiology
College of Public Health, Kent State University

The symposium would include roundtable discussions with local AALANA health department
officials; and an informal student “meet and greet” evening reception, including potential BSPH
recruits from area high schools.
The plan will be introduced to the college Diversity and Inclusion Committee at its meeting on
December 5, 2015.
Co-sponsorship will be sought from the Provost’s Office; Division of Diversity, Equity and
Inclusion; KSU Women’s Center; and the Division of Graduate Studies.
