which she thinks might
have been a fruit.

We’re still looking for a good
old-fashioned
BULLA
recipe
Bulla is a traditional Jamaican
treat. The sweet cakey dough is
baked to a golden or dark brown
crustiness.
We’re received one yummy Bulla recipe to date from — an American
— Jennifer Mullings, who discover this crusty treat when she moved
to Jamaica years ago. Get her recipe in the Dec--March 2011 issue.
The not so simple
quest for a good ol’
fashioned Bulla
We thought our quest for
good old-fashioned bulla
recipes was simple enough.
Responding to the longing
of Vancouver, Canada,
reader Barbara Binns
(August - November 2010)
for an ol’ time Bulla oozing
with dark molasses and
perked up with fresh ginger,
we put out the call. But, lo
and behold, we’ve come to
realize that folks hold their
bulla recipes close.
Oh, we’ve been titillated
by Bulla stories, but then
told that they remain closely
guarded family secrets. So
we’re still looking. E-mail us
@ [email protected]s.com.

Food inspired by...
Grandma
Actually, she was my great grandmother,
and back in St. Mary, Jamaica, we called
her Sister Wadi. I remember that she
was tall and proud and taught me
how to cook.
The food I serve at my restaurant
may have a modern twist – with
items like the Bob Marley Pizza
Bowl – but every bite is
flavoured with memories
of Sister Wadi.
