Spread the Word - This electronic newsletter and our
community websites are the primary resources for information
for residents about Board activities, social events, and
community news. It is very important that as many of our
residents as possible have access to this information. Please
forward this newsletter to any neighbors you think may not have
signed up yet. To be added to the delivery list, residents should
just send an e-mail with "Newsletter" in the subject line to:
[email protected]
for our cars and driveways, it is strongly suggested that at the most
the pod clusters be only trimmed off of their hosts every other year,
as the production of these pods is a natural part of the growth and
propagation cycle of the tree. Most palms do not need aggressive
trimmings. It is recommended to only remove dead fronds when
trimming as the leaves are necessary for Photosynthesis. The
structure of the palm leaf allows for carbon dioxide and oxygen to
enter and leave the leaf, which is where photosynthesis actually
takes place. All trees are a great help to the environment, as trees
"take in" carbon dioxide and "give off" oxygen, thus helping keep
the Earth in balance.

Keep Your Info Current - We don't always know if newsletters
are received. Don't forget to tell us if your e-mail address

Info on Florida Flora and Fauna
The Palms of Palma Sola Trace - We live in a community that
has a diverse palm family, some of which are very common
and some of which are somewhat rare. In either case, most
palms are low maintenance and require a small amount of TLC
to grow and thrive. Many people worry and fret over the
pruning of a palm because in the Florida sunshine, so many
flowers, trees and vines take a lot of work to make them
presentable in our yards - for instance, who has a bougainvillea
or hibiscus that does not need to be trimmed, watered, trimmed
again and fed throughout the year to look good?
.
This is not the case for palm trees once they are established.
With few exceptions, palm trees need to be trimmed once or
twice a year and not with a "hedge clipper" mentality. While the
seed pods that some palms in PST produce cause problems

Palma Sola Tracings Feature Article
A Special Section of Interest
New Contact Guides for PST Residents! - Past issues of the newsletter have included a section called "Making Connections"
with information on how to reach Board Members, Management companies, etc. With three HOA Boards, two Management
Companies, the CDD and the City of Bradenton all involved, getting to the right resource can be very confusing. At the suggestion
of a resident, we have expanded our original information to include contact information, plus information on who can help with
various issues. Since each of our neighborhoods is different, there are three separate guides:
Contact Guide for Condo Residents
Contact Guide for Villa Residents
Contact Guide for Single Family Residents
Some of the information is the same for all of us - emergency numbers for police, Master Board members, etc. However, each
guide contains other information that is unique to each community. The guides are included at the end of this newsletter - we
suggest you print them for yourselves and your guests. The Contact Guides, and any future changes in information, will be posted
on the web site at http://www.palmasolatrace.us/index.htm.

This event will take the place of the Ladies' Lunch on the second Thursday of the month. Please see the invitation at the end of this
newsletter to learn more about A Culinary Journey Around the World.

More Stargazing - Ed McDonough
(our local stargazer) has donated a
beautiful Celestron brass telescope
to the clubhouse. He set it up by
one of the front windows. Check it
out the next time you are in the
clubhouse - and watch for
information about future stargazing
opportunities with Ed!
Lost and Found - A resident lost a small green change
purse with a house key in it. If found, please contact the
newsletter at [email protected]
Holiday Trash Pickup - Monday, February 16 is the
President's Day holiday so there will be no trash pickup.
Trash will be picked up on Tuesday, February 17.
Recycling will be picked up on Monday as scheduled.
Contributor - Ed McDonough
Trash Compactor and Recycle Area - The trash compactor/recycle area in the condominium portion of our community is
designated for use by condominium residents only. Use by residents other than those in the condominiums, or by non-residents of
Palma Sola Trace, creates the need for additional service which condominium owners must pay for. Please remember that the
compactor and recycle area near it are provided for the use of condominium residents only. The area should not be used by the
villas or the single family homes residents - these areas have curbside pickup instead and can contact the city for pickup of bulky
items.
.
Bulky Trash Pickup - If you have bulky trash that needs picked up by the City of Bradenton, place it at the curbside and call the city
at 708-6340. There is no charge for the pickup of bulk cardboard - boxes just need to be broken down. There is a charge for other
items and the amount (dependent on the item) will be added to your water bill. A copy of the rate schedule has been posted on the
web site at http://www.palmasolatrace.us/index.htm
.
Help Wanted for Tag Sale! - For a number of years, Monica Wright has organized our Community Tag Sale twice a year, thanks
very much Monica! Monica is no longer able to continue organizing this event. This volunteer position requires setting the date,
placing ads and signs, and removing the signs after the sale is over. If you would like to help your community by taking on this
responsibility please contact the newsletter [email protected]
.
Safety on our PST City Streets! Golf Carts - Remember, Palma Sola Trace is in the City of Bradenton and our streets are city streets, not private
roads. Golf carts are not permitted on the streets within our community (or the city of Bradenton).
.
.
Traffic Tickets - Recently over 30 traffic tickets, at $158.00 each, were issued to motorists who failed to come to a
complete stop at posted stop signs within Palma Sola Trace. The Bradenton Police Department has
acknowledged drivers rolling through the stop signs have been an ongoing safety issue within our community and
will continue to monitor the situation. Please come to a complete stop before continuing on to your destination
within the community - it's safer for our residents, and could save you the cost of a ticket!

A Culinary Journey Around the World
February 19 at 11:30 am
Our culinary journey will take us around the world in 180 minutes or
less! We'll travel to Berlin, Rome, Calcutta, Hong Kong, Honolulu,
and Cancun. You don't need your passport and won't have to worry
about jet lag, but will have the opportunity to enjoy preparing and
tasting foods from around the world.
Please RSVP by February 5 to [email protected] or by
calling Maggie Zeiner at 795-2461. Tell us your first and second
choice of the destinations listed above. For each destination we
have planned an entrée, a side dish, and dessert. Since we always
seem to have too much food, we'd like you to work in groups (You
can make your own group or we'll help you find one) to prepare the
foods from your assigned destination. We'll let you know your
"assignment" by Feb. 9th so you'll have time to plan with the other
ladies in your group. We will provide recipes or you can use one of
your favorites.
We'll provide iced tea and coffee. If you want something else to
drink, please bring your beverage and glass.
Decorate a hat or a wine glass, or create a costume to represent
one of our ports of call if you're feeling creative!
