LOCATIONS
The MetroWest YMCA is a cause driven charitable
organization that is for youth development, healthy
living and social responsibility.
• Youth Development, because young people
need caring adults to provide support, guidance and
encouragement as they grow.
• Healthy Living, because wellness in spirit, mind
and body strengthens our very being and enhances
our interactions with others.
• Social Responsibility, because we truly are in this
together, and together we can harness our individual
strengths and bring about positive change around
us.
For over 50 years the MetroWest YMCA, with branches
in Framingham and Hopkinton, has helped members
improve their health and well-being while building a
stronger sense of community.

THE ORGANIZING WORKOUT
NEW! Organizing is a way to take care of yourself. It has
health benefits because it’s de-stressing, allowing
us to gain control of our environments, and therefore ourselves.
This 4 week class will focus primarily on paper-related issues and solutions. This type of disorganization seems to
create the most trouble for people. The feeling that we’re
not taking care of things, don’t have our affairs in order,
can’t find things quickly when needed…is most frustrating.
But it can be changed! We can learn to manage the paper
chase and gain peace of mind.

Mail management and other incoming paper; filing systems and supplies
#2 The Art of Letting Go
How long to keep what; making decisions, eliminating the
unnecessary
#3 Better Safe than Organized

Estate Planning Organization, providers, policies and accounts.

The Pete Donahue Scholarship
The Pete Donahue Scholarship was established through
the very generous gifts made by the family and friends of
the late Pete Donahue. Pete was a long-time member and
friend of the MetroWest YMCA who courageously fought
Parkinson’s disease until his death in 2013.
Regular
exercise and his friendships with other Y members were
very important to Pete. His family would like to help other
individuals with Parkinson’s Disease access the programs
and services that the MetroWest YMCA provides.
Through the Pete Donahue Scholarship, the
MetroWest YMCA provides financial assistance
to
individuals
with
medically
diagnosed
Parkinson’s Disease or Neurological disorder.
Individuals have the opportunity to exercise under the
supervision of our Wellness staff up to two times per
week. The program also includes membership benefits
which provide access to our drop-in and specialty group
exercise programs and aquatics programs.
To enroll in the MetroWest YMCA Pete Donahue Parkinson’s
Scholarship program, please contact Kim Kirshon Wellness
Director, at (508) 879-4420 x 31.

LIVESTRONG
CPR/SAFETY
EDUCATION
SAFETY EDUCATION COURSES
More than 12 million cancer survivors live in the United
States, and 3 out of 4 families will help care for a family
member with cancer. Recent medical research has shown
that exercise can counteract the often debilitating side
effects of cancer treatment.
When cancer survivors
participate in moderate levels of physical activity, fatigue
is reduced, physical strength is increased and quality of
life is significantly improved. Unfortunately, many cancer
survivors do not engage in any activity during and after
treatment because they don’t know where to go for the
special kind of program they need.
LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA is free, 12 week program
designed for small groups of adult cancer survivors. The
goal of the program is to help participants build muscle
mass and strength, increase flexibility and endurance,
and improve functional ability. Additional goals include
reducing the severity of therapy side effects, preventing
unwanted weight changes and improving energy levels
and self esteem. The program is led by our staff that have
been specially trained in the physical and emotional needs
of cancer survivors.
When a cancer survivor walks through our doors, they
will become a part of the YMCA family. LIVESTRONG® at
the YMCA will engage cancer survivors by focusing on the
whole person and will provide a supportive, community
environment where people affected by cancer can connect
during treatment and beyond.
For more information about LIVESTRONG® at the
YMCA, please contact Tom Black at (508) 879-4420
x39.
