In 2014, the Pioneers won the inaugural
Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference
title after setting a school record on vault
(49.475). They will look to defend their title
when the 2015 Championships come to
Magness Arena on March 21.
Last Time Out
Denver opened up its third week of
competition against No. 10 Georgia in a
Monday afternoon meet held in Magness
Arena where the Pioneers won 194.850 –
194.300. It was the team’s first win in 16 tries
against the Gymdogs.
Senior Nina McGee (Cincinnati, Ohio) again
won the all-around title (39.325) while also
winning the vault (9.875), beam (9.825) and
floor (9.925) titles. The Pioneers swept the
beam podium with senior Ellese Sakai-Hart
(Aptos, Calif.) finishing second (9.775) and
sophomore Rachel Fielitz (Walden, N.Y.)
finishing third (9.700). Sakai-Hart also stood
on the floor podium with a score of 9.800,
tying her for third.
McGee’s Strong Start
Only three meets into the season, and
McGee is already filling up her proverbial
trophy case. In each of the Pioneers’ three
meets, she has won the all-around title and
three other individual event titles. She has
also set or tied career highs on vault (9.900)
and floor (9.975).
The MRGC named her Gymnast of the
Week for the first two weeks of the season
following her wins at North Carolina State
(1/9/15) and at home against Utah State
(1/17/15). She had previously earned
conference Gymnast of the Week honors
twice in her career (3/18/14 and 2/26/13),

Eyes on the Polls
Denver moved up two spots to No. 15 in
the GymInfo Poll for the week of January
19 following a 196.025 win over MRGC
opponent Utah State on January 17 in
Hamilton Gymnasium. The rankings do
not reflect Denver’s 194.850-194.300 win
over Georgia, held the afternoon after the
rankings were released. Both the Georgia
meet and Cal quad meet will impact the
Pioneers’ standing in the next poll, released
January 26.
About California
Sunday’s meet is the Bears first at home
this year after three meets on the road,
including last Friday’s tri-meet at San Jose
State. Cal won with a final score of 194.875
against SJSU’s 194.750 and UW-La Crosse’s
188.850. Freshman Toni-Ann Williams won
three titles: vault (9.950), bars (9.875) and
floor (9.925).
