63rd St / Lexington Av Station Area
The construction of Entrance 3 on the northeast corner of 63rd Street and Third Avenue
will continue into late spring/early summer of 2015. A new work zone was installed in
late October.
Construction also is continuing in select areas along 63rd Street between Lexington and
Third Avenues and on Lexington Avenue between 63rd and 64th Streets to close or reopen existing sidewalk gratings. This work is currently underway on 63rd Street between
Lexington and 3rd Avenues and new work zones have been established as necessary.

Tom Peyton, Second Avenue Subway Construction Director, the man who directs the entirety of the Second Avenue
Subway construction project, will present an overview of progress in 2014. The presentation will highlight construction
milestones completed in 2014 and anticipate milestones that MTA Capital Construction expects to achieve in the
coming year.

Project Overview
The new 63rd Street/Lexington Av Station will have four new entrances at the intersection of 63rd Street and Third Avenue. Entrance 1
will provide two new street-level escalators, Entrances 3 and 4 will provide new staircases, and Entrance 2 will have a street-level ADA
accessible elevator. The station will also have four new elevators from the mezzanine to platform levels.
Work in this area is to reconstruct the existing 63rd Street/Lexington Av Station, which involves excavation for the construction of an
entrance and ancillary buildings, removal and upgrade of the structural elements within the existing subway tunnel, and a traction
power connection to the Lexington Av/59th Street Station on the Q Line. This work should be completed by Summer of 2015.

Construction Update
• Construction for Entrance 3, a new sidewalk entrance on the northeast
corner of 63rd Street and Third Avenue.
• Closure of an existing sidewalk grating in front of 163 E. 63rd Street.
• Re-opening of sidewalk gratings on the northeast corner of 63rd Street
and Lexington Avenue.
• Installation of new permanent structural supports for 200 E. 63rd
Street with over 65 percent of the new supports completed.
• Intermittent concrete deliveries along E. 63rd Street between Third
and Lexington Avenues.
• Hoisting materials in and out of the station at the plaza (northwest
corner of Third Avenue and E. 63rd Street), and mechanical equipment
through access hatches along E. 63rd Street between Park and Third
• Establish additional temporary Maintenance and Protection of Traffic
(MPT) configurations on an as-needed basis on E. 63rd Street between
Lexington and Third Avenues.
Work Hours
• Installation of stairs, masonry walls, ceiling panels,
supports, column cladding, track wall tile framing
and tiles, platform pavers, and other station finishes
throughout the station’s new section.
• Installation of utility carrier brackets, rails, and support
carriers for power and communications conduits in the
platform areas.
• Installation of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire
protection, and communications systems at various
