Healthy Smiles, Healthy Children (HSHC) supports community-based initiatives
nationwide providing Dental Homes to children from families who cannot afford
dental care. Founded in 1987, Healthy Smiles, Healthy Children is the
$13 million philanthropic arm of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.
Since 2010, HSHC has released more than $700,000 in support of Access to Care
initiatives helping more than 100,000 children in 17 states. HSHC awards
annually single-year grants of up to $20,000 supporting dentist-led efforts in
offering care to underserved children.
In 2014, the Foundation will:
• Release up to $400,000 in single-year Access to Care Grants
• Introduce multi-year Access to Care Grants of up to $375,000 each
• Hold its second annual HSHC Dental Home Day, providing Dental Homes
for at least 100 children in Boston (2014 AAPD Annual Session host city)

About the AAPD
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry is the recognized authority on
children’s oral health. As advocates for children’s oral health, the AAPD
promotes evidence-based policies and clinical guidelines; educates and informs
policymakers, parents and guardians, and other health care professionals; fosters
research; and provides continuing professional education for pediatric dentists
and general dentists who treat children. Founded in 1947, the AAPD is a not-forprofit professional membership association representing the specialty of
