Riley Street Reminder What’s Right with Our School...

November 14, 2014
What’s Right with Our School...
★The patriotic spirit displayed by our school
community as we honored over 40 veterans
today during a special assembly.
★Students and staff who donated to the Army
Strong Community Center food drive this
week.
★Our girls Swim and Dive team for defeating
Jenison on Thursday night and staying
undefeated on the season.
★6th grade band brass and percussion students
are exceptional about helping one another
with band set up (chairs, stands, music).
★Friendships! New friends, old friends, it
doesn’t matter. The best part of middle school
are the friendships our students make. It’s
great to see our kids working together, talking
together, laughing together, eating together,
singing together, and learning together.
★Mrs. Westveld’s students for making 600 red
poppies for the students to "wear" to the
Veteran’s Day assembly.
★Substitute teachers who frequently comment,
“I can’t wait to come back...the kids here at
Riley are great!”
★Parent partners helping our 8th grade
students prepare for their government
presentations.
★Seeing 6th graders excited for their new
classmate who had never seen snow before
and sharing in her excitement as she threw
her first snow ball!
★S/O to Montana Cates, Rylee Groenink and
Logan McClimans who went above and
beyond helping a substitute teacher clean up
the science lab after class.
★Our partnership with Fair Haven Church in
serving our families through Hand2Hand.
★Tyler Ihle for doing a great job welcoming
our guests and introducing lineups at our
basketball games.
★Riley Teunis for hosting a potential new
student today by showing her around the
school and introducing her to other students
and staff.
★Thank you to Dr. Marilyn Fitzgerald for
talking to some of our sixth graders about the
journey of writing and for sharing her
experience with microfinance. It was an
inspiring presentation!
★Jackson Dixon for his hard work and effort
this week in ELA!
★Kehan Batt, Andrew Knobloch, and Evan
Elling who say "thank you" when leaving
class every day.

A fun, engaging, and challenging 4 week class! Designed for kids grades 6 and above, using lego bricks, motors, and battery packs,
students will build more difficult models and have more difficult design challenges than in our traditional classes for the younger builder.
Students will also be challenged to redesign models to meet specific objectives in the class. Each 4 week class session is different with all
new models being built. These classes will be a great precursor to the Jr. Robotics classes that we will have beginning in January of 2015.
