SCHOLARSHIPS
Chancellor’s Non-Resident (CNR) Award
Dean’s International Scholar (DISA) Award
The CNR and DISA awards are renewable scholarships
that waive part of the non-resident fees ($8,000 to
$9,000* per year) for newly admitted, international
degree-seeking students. The scholarships can be
applied to bachelor’s and master’s programs.
New applicants who meet the following criteria are
automatically recommended to the academic unit for
consideration:
UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI-KANSAS CITY
n Minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
n Minimum TOEFL score of 79 Internet or 550 paper, or
minimum IELTS score of 6.0
n Master’s in computer science or electrical engineering
applicants must achieve a minimum TOEFL score of
85 Internet or 563 paper, or minimum IELTS score of
6.0.
n F-1 or J-1 visa holder
n Must be nominated by the UMKC academic unit
Doctoral fee waiver
All doctoral students are automatically awarded a nonresident fee waiver, a total savings of $8,000 to $9,000*
per year.

AT UMKC
Undergraduate transfer students who have a 3.0 GPA
on a 4.0 scale and have demonstrated leadership at
a community college may be eligible for the CCLA.
Awardees receive a non-resident fee waiver and
an additional $1,500, for a total value of more than
$10,000* per year.
Intensive English scholarship
Non-government-sponsored students studying
at UMKC’s Applied Language Institute receive a
scholarship that waives part of the non-resident fees.
* Tuition is based on a nine-month academic year (two semesters)
and amounts are estimated, based on most recent tuition rates. Some
academic programs have additional fees. Tuition, fees and scholarships are
subject to change without notice.

Students’ right to know In accordance with Public Law 101-542, UMKC reports 73 percent
of its first-time full-time degree-seeking freshmen return the second year. The UMKC
Police Department publishes an annual campus report on personal safety and crime
statistics. The report includes statistics for the previous three years concerning reported
crimes that occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings owned or controlled by
UMKC; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from, the
campus. The report also includes institutional policies concerning campus security, such
as policies concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes,
sexual assault and other matters. The report is available at the UMKC Police Department,

# The Architectural Studies sequence is a cooperative program with
Kansas State University. Students enroll at UMKC in preparation
for admission to KSU, where they may be awarded degrees in
architecture, landscape architecture and interior architecture.

UMKC welcomes international students. All classes
are taught in English, and English proficiency is
required.
Many UMKC undergraduate programs offer
conditional admission to students wishing to
study English as a Second Language (ESL) before
beginning their academic classes. Students receiving
conditional admission are admitted into both the
ESL program and an undergraduate program. After
successfully completing the ESL program, students
may begin their academic coursework. Conditional
admission to graduate programs is offered on a caseby-case basis.
