The Learning Step Preschool
The philosophy of this preschool is that early childhood should be a time of fun, warmth,
security, exploring and discovery. Preschool children are creative and receptive; the
program strives to nurture and encourage these qualities in its students. Our purpose is
to provide an atmosphere that encourages social, emotional, physical and intellectual
growth and development of the child as a whole in order to prepare them for their daily
elementary school years.

Learning Step Preschool Classes
Our primary goal is to provide your child with a stimulating environment in which he/she can grow. This program will
give your child a variety of experiences, which will promote social, emotional, intellectual and motor skills. We strive
to give each child a positive feeling of self-worth. We believe in and value each child’s uniqueness. The Preschool room
and the many planned activities are designed to provide an atmosphere where each child can freely express him/herself. The children at The Learning Step Preschool are encouraged to communicate, explore, discover and learn through
creative play! Visit our website: www.lockportpark.org - click preschool in the brown box on the homepage for more

Greetings,
Deck the halls this year with friends, family and photos from activities you
participated in at the Lockport Township Park District.
'Tis the season for blustery weather, but our doors are open with our Preschool
Open Houses on Sat., Feb. 21 from 9am-12pm at the following locations:
Central Square, Meader House, Richland Center, High Point Friendship Center
and Volz Fieldhouse. So come-in and visit our rooms, meet the teachers and
inquire about this creative program that will encourage your "little one" to excel
in everyday activities. See more preschool information on the inside cover of
this brochure.
Another "indoor" activity that will challenge you during the season is fitness.
The cold weather makes it difficult sometimes to get motivated. But at
Challenge Fitness, we have programs and personal trainers that will "kick-start"
you mentally and physically. New this year is GRIT that combines strength,
plyometrics and cardio. Find out more about this program on page 31 and other
fitness programs in the center of this book.

Moreover, our special events run the gamut from Christmas to Easter. Go from
inside to outside with holiday brunches, shows, parties, races and egg hunts
with almost all of these events hosted at Prairie Bluff Public Golf Club. Visit
our special events pages in the back of this book to find some holiday cheer.
And if you have an event or banquet of your own why not have Prairie Bluff
host it? Afterall, our facility makes a perfect venue for any occasion.
Now let's fast forward to spring with the buds sprouting on the trees in Dellwood
Park. New to the park is The Canyons, an "18-basket" disc golf course. It has
been said that every “hole” is a signature basket with breathtaking natural
backdrops from flowing water, rock formations, bridges to throwing from steep
terrain and so much more. It is truly one of the most beautiful disc courses in
the area with challenges that even the most experienced disc golfer will find
exhilarating.

All in all, no matter how cold or what the weather brings, the Lockport Township
Park District always has something for everyone everyday.

Allegro Group Piano
This popular class will introduce
your young child to piano. Mom or
Dad can feel free to play along as
we learn beginning note reading,
proper position and fun songs.
This class teaches from the exact
same curriculum that we use in
private lessons, yet our small group
sizes allow for plenty of personal
attention for your child - only up to
8 children in each class. Most classes are followed by a video
to help students learn and practice correctly at home.

Kick It Right Indoor Junior Soccer
Junior Soccer has been created due to the high demand for more
programming for those individuals who have graduated from
our Pee-Wee Soccer program and hundreds of requests from
parents with children from that age group. The staff at Kick
it Right will teach your child advanced soccer techniques and
an introduction to field positioning during the first 30 minutes
of class. We will then divide players evenly into teams for
RECREATIONAL games and scrimmages. Our goal at Junior
Soccer is to use the skills learned during the earlier stages
of Pee-Wee Soccer and build a stronger base with drills and
exercises that will challenge your child to the max. Our priority
is to provide a safe and fun environment for your kids to learn
and experience the joy of participating in a team sport, and
what a better team sport than soccer. Please bring shin guards

Disc Golf Course is an 18 basket
course with “holes” throughout
Lockport’s scenic Dellwood

bridges to throwing from steep terrain (slope: 0% to 12%)
and so much more. It is truly one of the most beautiful
disc courses in the area with challenges that even the most
experienced disc golfer will find exhilarating.
The composite course features three skill levels (red, white

Dellwood
Foundation
Through The Ed Brown Tree and Bench Commemorative
Program, friends and family can provide a unique dedication to
a loved one by purchasing a tree or bench to be placed in one of
Lockport Township Park District’s beautiful parks.
A commemorative tree or bench can be purchased for many
occasions including the memory of someone who has passed,
in honor of a dedicated service member, to celebrate a birthday,
a graduation, retirement or any other occasion.
Commemorative Trees
The Dellwood Foundation’s
commemorative trees are 2”
to 3” around and a minimum
of 6’ in height. The tree will be
planted in a neighborhood park
with the final location selected
by the Park Services Department
in collaboration with the donor’s
specifications.
A plaque will be mounted at the
base of the tree after the tree’s
growth has been established.
Trees will be planted in the
spring, early summer or fall. The
price of each commemorative
tree is $200, which includes the
tree itself, delivery, installation,
a commemorative plaque and
maintenance. The Dellwood
Foundation will add to your
donation and actually plant a
$325 tree.
Commemorative Park Benches
The Dellwood
Foundation’s
commemorative
park
benches
are 6’ long
and made of
recycled plastic
composition.
They
are
available
in
a variety of
colors. The price
for each commemorative park bench is $800, which includes
the bench itself, delivery, installation, a commemorative plaque
and maintenance. The Dellwood Foundation will add to your
contribution, thereby, installing a $1,000 bench.
Although the Park Services Department has the final decision
regarding bench locations, every effort will be made to
accommodate the donor’s request.
Additional questions pertaining to The Ed Brown Tree and
Bench Commemorative Program can be directed to the admin.

Reiki 1
The human body consists of subtle energy systems that
reflect our state of well-being and health. When these energy
systems become overloaded and impaired we experience
decreased vitality, illness and anxiety. Through the art of
touch therapy and focused intent, Reiki 1 teaches you how
to become a clear and intentional practitioner raising your
own vibrational frequencies for self-healing and providing
healing support for others. Each participant will receive the
Reiki 1 Manual and Certificate of Completion. Comfortable
clothes are suggested and a light lunch.

Reiki Level 2
As vibrational beings we all have the innate ability to sense
and feel electromagnetic fields of energy. Reiki teaches us
how to fine-tune our abilities to scan the human body with
our hands, sensing areas of sluggish-moving and blocked
energy, which the Japanese refer to as Ki. Creating a circuit
between yourself and another you are able to assist others
to raise their energetic frequencies to improve their health
and wellness in person or through distance healing. Each
participant will receive the Reiki 2 Manual and Certificate of
Completion. Comfortable clothes are suggested and a light
lunch. Pre-requisite: Reiki Level 1 Certificate.

In March 2013, I signed up for
f my first
fi t Largest
L
t Loser
L
with
ith my mom. My mom had recently lost 100+ pounds with the help
of a trainer at LTPD. I saw the change in her and I realized I wasn't the smallest in my immediate family any longer; it
motivated me to start my journey. I had lost weight before, but never kept it off.
When I started Largest Loser, I couldn't run a mile without stopping, I had trouble jumping on a stepper with one riser, and
I could barely hold a plank. Throughout the first Largest Loser, I lost 10 pounds and 8 inches, I was starting to feel better
about myself. Over the next year, I completed two more Largest Losers during which I lost very little weight, sometimes
even gaining weight, but still losing inches. It wasn't until my fourth Largest Loser that things really changed...
In the summer of 2014, is when everything changed. I realized that I just didn't care what the number on the scale was
anymore. Before I began Largest Loser for the fourth time, I decided I didn't want to know my weight or any measurements
until the end. The number on the scale didn't define me anymore. I started loving working out. I loved the feeling I got after I
finished a really tough workout and the gym started to be my stress reliever instead of eating. But then I had a conversation
with my awesome trainer. This conversation is what made everything "click." From then on, the weight started falling off.
I have a completely different outlook on myself and the world. The number on the scale is nothing, I honestly don't even
know what I weigh at this moment, but I do know this...
* I can run a mile in 9:49 minutes. * I completed my first half marathon in June 2014. * My PR for a 5K is 33:28
minutes.
* I can do a wall up. * I can do a good burpee. * I can jump 8 risers. * I can hold a plank for 2:05 minutes.
* I completed a 10 mile run in 2:14:43 hours.
The scale now tells me my relationship with gravity. I now know that I am so much more than the number on the scale. I am
starting to like me more and more each day. I am not perfect. I still don't make the best choice all the time but 9.5 times out
of 10, I do make the right choice. I still struggle but I know I'm on the right path and I'll never go back where I once was.
Largest Loser helped me, change me. I did the work, but my trainer and my workout group gave me the support.
Thanks for taking the time to read my story.

Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America
Come earn your water badges with Lockport Township Park
District. We can accommodate the skills needed for your scouts
to earn their swimming or water safety badges. The program is
60 minutes of instruction followed by open swim time. Each
scout pays a $4 admission fee ($6 w/badge). Leaders must be
present and can teach the program if qualified. If an instructor
is needed to teach the program, there is an additional $20 fee.
Please note that badges must be ordered so we need at least
three weeks notice for scheduling.
Swim Assessment
The swim assessment focuses on technique, endurance and
speed. Great for fitness swimmers or triathletes. Meet for 2
sessions, each 30 minutes long. The first session the instructor
will critique the stroke and give guidance on how to improve.
Two to three weeks later, meet back up with the instructor for a
follow-up evaluation. Participants must be at least 14 years of
age and have the basic swim fundamentals (Level 4).
