When winter hits,
we’re ready.
You can count on city employees
to keep our neighbourhoods safe
and clear — in any weather.
Big storms often don’t give you much
warning. A city like Calgary needs a
team in place that can hit the streets
with a few hours notice.
Fortunately, that’s just what we have.
When the snow flew early this year,
Calgary’s city employees were prepared:
plowing streets and sidewalks, clearing
downed branches, trees and other debris,
salting and sanding.
We’re your reliable, dedicated team.
So when some politicians talk about
replacing experienced public employees
with for-profit contractors, know that it
comes at a price.
When your family’s safety is on the line,
cutting corners isn’t worth it.

Our parking lot is very busy at pick-up times for a variety

leaving the building and may not look before they run
into the path of traffic.
Please note that the end of the cement pad is a dropoff/pick-up zone only – unattended vehicles are not
allowed. Also, the handicap parking stall is for vehicles
that have a handicap parking sticker.
Help us ensure the safety of all users of the Oakridge

Ring Road
Letter
Oakridge community members,
As the construction for the Calgary Ring Road draws
closer, the Oakridge Community Association Board of
Directors has the opportunity to sit down with Alberta
Transportation and the City of Calgary to discuss impacts to our community.
The ring road is going ahead and it is the position of the
board to work with planners to minimize the impact to
the community. The best way to do this is to gather input from the community members and deliver a united
wish list.
It is with this in mind that the board would like community members to think about options that would reduce
ring road impact.
Some suggestions: plant trees or build a sculpture along
the ring road right-of-way to be more visually appealing
and act as a sound buffer, as well as erect a pedestrian
bridge or tunnel to ensure access to South Glenmore
Park and Weaselhead.
All ideas must be reasonable and in the spirit of working
collaboratively as a community. After compiling the top
ideas, the board will present them to Alberta Transportation and the City of Calgary
Please have all suggestions in to [email protected]
com by December 1, 2014.
With sincere regards,
Matthew O’Connor, VP Civic Affairs

Are You Implementing
Strategies to Minimize Tax?
Ask an Expert
Q
Are there certain assets that I should give special
consideration to in order to avoid paying undue
tax?
A
Each year, countless individuals pay an excessive
amount of tax to Canada Revenue Agency. In
order to preserve the value of your assets, it is vital to
structure your estate in a strategic manner. Although tax
is an unavoidable reality within even a well-composed
estate, there are many tools available that may
significantly reduce or defer an estate’s taxation
liability. A proper tax plan should account for both
domestic and international issues. Many families are
unaware that internationally held assets, such as U.S.
vacation properties or U.S. investments, are liable
to both Canadian and U.S. estate taxes. Failure to
structure these assets within a larger tax scheme will
inevitably cause their real values to be reduced. In addition
to the aforementioned risks, foreign assets can also legally
create multiple estates. By owning U.S. property or
U.S. investments, you are recognized to possess both a

and Host of The Strongroom on QR77
Canadian and U.S. estate. Upon an individual’s
passing, these two estates will need to be settled, adding
considerably to the amount of time and money required.
Ultimately, your assets both inside and outside of Canada
require careful planning. In order to reduce tax, it is vital
to use the most qualified experts available. Always consult
with a professional to ensure you are properly protected.

Hello Calgary- Glenmore –
As I write this article in late September, we are continuing to clean-up and recover from the snowfall
that damaged so many trees on our properties and in
our parks. Thank you to the community members and
neighbours who gave their time and resources to help
move branches. I enjoyed watching the communities
of Calgary-Glenmore work together. Also thank you to
everyone who attended my Town Hall in last month in
Lakeview. I hold at least two meetings each year in order
to hear your priorities before I go back into session.
COUNCILLOR’s Report
Brian Pincott
Ward 11
www.ward11calgary.ca
On November 4, the next four-year strategic plan and
budget will be released for public review. As part of
The City’s regular cycle of municipal elections and business planning, Action Plan is how we connect our City’s
day-to-day operations with its long-term goals, as well
as balance providing great services with affordable tax
rates for all Calgarians.
The Action Plan process launched last March with a
broad-reaching citizen engagement campaign. Informed by engagement results, as well as other inputs
like major economic and demographic trends, city finances and legislative obligations, council drafted and
approved its priorities for 2015 - 2018 in May.
This fall there have been many announcements and
changes. In his swearing-in speech, Premier Jim Prentice
made several observations which struck home with me.
I was pleased to hear him say, “Albertans want less talk
and more action on their priorities, including improvements to education and health care. Our province is rich
in possibility and potential. It is our privilege and our
responsibility to define what comes next.”
Over the summer, city staff created plans and budgets
in response to Council’s Priorities within spending limits identified by council. The result, Action Plan 2015 2018, identifies how The City will deliver 44 of council’s
strategic actions over four years, representing over $20
billion of capital infrastructure investment and service
delivery. This includes the nearly 100 different kinds of
front-line services already provided that support citizens in their daily lives.
As your MLA, I will continue to advance your concerns
directly to government ministers, colleagues and community organizations. I am consistent in presenting
your priorities at Cabinet and policy committees of the
government caucus and in the Legislature.
Visit calgary.ca/actionplan to see the full plan on November 4, as well as city performance measures, benchmarking, citizen engagement, budgets and detailed
Council Priorities. After Action Plan is released, council
will consider the plan for approval during two weeks of
deliberations from November 24 to December 5, 2014.
Enjoy this fall season and safe travels. As always, I am
just a phone call away.
From November 4 onward, you can comment on the
proposed plan on calgary.ca, by filling out a comment
card at your local public library, or by contacting 311. As
well, you are invited to sign-up before November 19 to
speak during council deliberations or submit a presentation in advance for consideration by November 13.
All feedback will be shared with council.
As always, I encourage constituents of Ward 11 to contact me with any questions or concerns. I email out information regarding upcoming events, city programs
and opportunities to provide input into the city’s public
engagement programs relevant to Ward 11 residents.
Due to the new anti-spam laws you need to specifically
request our email updates; you can sign up at anytime
by emailing my office.

7 Condo unit sales with a median sale price of $236,000
Sales in Oakridge/Oakridge Estates have remained steady in the single family sector
over the past month, but we have seen a slight increase in condominium sales. With
only 4700 listings city wide, market conditions remain strong, but are becoming
more balanced, with the condo sector leading the way in market growth, with nearly
12% more sales than the same period last year. It is expected market conditions will
remain similar in the coming month.
