Why read on?
Let’s clear the bull. Everyone knows there are more failure-ridden schemes than successful plans
on the Internet. More dreams dashed than supported and nurtured to fruition.
This is a guide of useful insights into how to succeed in the online world. It isn’t just like every
other book you’ve read on the subject. It is similar in some respects. You’ll be told how it has
been done – but we won’t be glossing over facts.
Internet Marketing, and Online R.O.I. are HARD. Working at a gas station for the rest of your life
is easy. Making money on the Internet is HARD. But there’s much more money-making
potential, and if you succeed, you have the possibility of becoming a millionaire.
O.K. O.K. Millionaire. Got it.
You’re right. You probably won’t succeed quite to this point. You’ll hear this figure from
time to time: 99% of people who attempt to make money on the Internet don’t follow
No scientific study of this has been made that I’m aware of, but it is true that most people
just download, or at most, glance at the eBooks I or others offer on the subject of Internet
Marketing. Nobody succeeds unless they follow through to the result.
Those that do read all the articles and eBooks out there and follow through manage to
increase traffic to their web sites. I for one am an example of this very thing.
started out in February 2005 with maybe 100 hits a month with my halfhearted attempts at marketing. Most of these pageviews were me, myself, and I.
December 2005, I researched online marketing with a vengeance, and January 2006
began marketing using techniques found on just a handful of marketing sites. Within 2
months, I had over 100 pageviews a day. And the views weren’t me.
By March, I had 800-1200 unique visitors per day.
This isn’t to say that I was making a ton of money. For every 1,000 visitors, I’d have 1
customer signup for service. Every other signup translated into sales. This totaled $50200 every month… Pretty good for spending money, or to pay on the car.
However, sold nothing but Adobe Photoshop styles at the time. Talk about
your specific niche.
The point is, you CAN get traffic. You CAN make sales.
If I can receive that much traffic, and at least a few sales in a very narrow niche market, I
believe whole-heartedly that you should be able to do at least as well.
To start things off, I’ll be sharing with you a number of articles I have published either in
my or on BestOnlineWeb.Info – the very “secrets” that led to my web site’s
dramatic traffic boost. I’m sure it’ll be a help to you, because it was to me.

Getting Rich Quick
By Raymond C. Dukes
As anyone reading this article undoubtedly knows, becoming a millionaire is hard
work. I, personally am fed up with "Get Rich Quick" schemes that don't work.
There are some methods in turning the vast riches of the Internet into money in
your pocket, but nothing is as simple as placing some content on one web site
and some Google AdSense links.
You'll receive money in this way, but you won't "Get Rich Quick". In this article,
we will examine the ways that work rather than the dozens of phony pyramid
schemes and fake sites aimed at selling you more products.
StepbyStep Blueprint of Making Money Online
As you may imagine, there are several methods of making money online, but all
of them will fall apart if you don't have the appropriate infrastructure and attack
plan. Your first step in making money is creating a strategy.
Here are some suggested steps in composing that strategy:
1. Pick a MoneyMaking Plan
Decide what type of money.making plan is doable for you. You may not
be able to implement them all, or any of them.
2. Break Everything Down
Break it into simple terms and focus on specific tasks, one at a time.
3. Assign Jobs
Apply the jobs for specific aspects of the plan to specific people.
4. Decide on an Advertising Plan
Proper Advertising is necessary since people need to know about your
goods or services to purchase them.
5. This is the big one Carry Everything Out.
1. Picking a MoneyMaking Plan
There are dozens if not hundreds of money.making opportunities. Money.
making opportunities that work, not money.making schemes that fail . there are
Copyright  2006 Raymond C. Dukes, See for the most recent version.
more of those. To succeed, be realistic and pick those that you know you can
carry out to fruition. Overwhelming yourself will only breed failure.
Below are a list of the plans that are proven to make money. Not all plans are
listed since there are hundreds, but some of the more popular ones are.
1. Open a RoyaltyFree Article Website with or without editing rights
(with is usually considered better).
Either with a membership fee, or with advertisements such as AdSense
and affiliates.
2. Create a Coupon Website with associated advertisements and
possibly AdSense ads.
3. Create a Niche Website with news and good information on a single
Monetize it with AdSense and similar programs.
Remember to optimize the articles for better ad click.through rates
whenever possible.
4. Advertise ClickBank (and similar) Affiliates through AdWords.
You advertise and gain commissions . be advised that you may need to
invest heavily and that there is a chance of large losses as well as large
5. Create a Marketing Website that offers information such as eBooks
on optimizing profits.
You either need access to a Royalty.Free content site, or need to spend
long hours researching and/or doing Internet Marketing.
Remember to offer an Affiliate program (50.75% commissions are
considered good selling points.)
6. Write a Computer Program and Market it Online
There are large.scale problems with Spam, Viruses, Worms, AdWare,
SpyWare, and other malicious programs.
Creating something to combat these threats and marketing it properly can
mean enormous profits.
There are many other programs that are popular: P2P software, MP3
software, etc.
Copyright  2006 Raymond C. Dukes, See for the most recent version.
Remember to use Royalty Free Software Code to speed production but give credit to writers.
7. Create an Online store
Offer downloadable products whenever possible, drop.ship through a
warehouse if you can.
Remember that a decent drop.shipper doesn't charge monthly fees.
It's also best to go with someone reliable and with a low cut on sales.
If you're making 200 sales a month with only a profit of $2, you should
probably look elsewhere for a drop.shipper or close the store.
8. Viral and Startup Websites
There are no viruses on these websites, they're called "Viral" because
links to your site multiply like crazy.
Opening a site that helps push traffic to your site and customers' sites will
undoubtedly see a lot of traffic (again, remember to market it properly.)
By having links to your other money.making sites, and having a few
unobtrusive advertisements on it, you can gain revenue.
9. Pixel Advertisement Sites
Pixel websites are a fad popular as of the writing of this article.
Creating your own can insure good profits over the short term.
Remember to create your with some sort of twist in comparison to other
sites so that yours stands out.
If possible, you can add a small pixel board to some of your other
You could also monetize your own free pixel ad website.
2. Break Everything Down
As with any job, you have to break everything down to a step process
and list. If this is done and followed, it is less likely that a person attempting
all this will become overwhelmed and have a panic attack. Take your time in
following the process, most businesses take time.
3. Assign Jobs
If you have more than one person attempting to complete the project, dividing
the project down to basic tasks and assigning them out can lessen the burden

on a single person. The only problems with this are that all people concerned
have to be competent, and people committed to the project.
4. Decide on an Advertising Plan
Okay, Scheme is the wrong word. Again, your plan is a strategy you absolutely
need and need to follow through.
There are hundreds or thousands of Advertising opportunities. You need to
identify which of them will give you not only visitors to your websites, but which
marketing strategy will give you ROI. Return On Investment is an absolute must.
If you receive 100,000 clicks to your site per day, but 0% revenue, the
advertising is not successful.
The Advertising methods everyone thinks about includes Google SEO (Search
Engine Optimization), Google AdWords Advertising, Overture Yahoo! Search
Marketing, and Link Exchanges.
Let me tell you now that Google SEO doesn't give you sales. It only gives you
A truly large company or popular site will have 100,000 to 1,000,000 clicks per
day. Most people won't have nearly that many. We can assume you'll have 100
to 150,000 visits per day if you are #1 on Google, depending on the subject;
some obscure subjects may have far fewer clicks. We are almost certainly not
going to get #1 on Google. There are millions of web sites now on each and
every subject imaginable. A large number of those are attempting to get the #1
spot. You're going to be lucky to be on the first 10 pages.
Search Engine Advertisements
Google AdWords and Overture Yahoo! Search Marketing (and similar programs
through other search engines) usually only gives clicks and will suck your
I know what I'm talking about, I've run Google and Yahoo ads and optimized
them for thousands of clicks per day for targeted audiences and received far
more clicks and costs than revenue. Let me elaborate (bear with me, there are a
lot of numbers).
Copyright  2006 Raymond C. Dukes, See for the most recent version.
- 10 -
On a whole, .1% click.through on Google is considered "good" and 1% click.
though is possible.
That's roughly between 1:1000 and 1:100 ratio.
Let's say you have 100,000 impressions. That's 100 visits at most. If you are
using AdSense as well, you are likely getting up to 2% click.throughs.
That's normally what? $0.10 to $1.25 per day (1 or 2 clicks) on a site with 100ish
visits per day. About $3 . $37.50 per month.
We're spending between $10 and $12 per day on those ads more than likely. If
we increase that to between $100 and $120 for our AdWords/Overture daily
budget, we get between $30 and $350 per month.
See the problem?
More Cost per day than revenue per day. This doesn't mean that you should
automatically drop Google or Yahoo Ads. You may make a good conversion rate
for sales on your Internet Store, but then again, you may not. You'll have to track
this yourself since every store is different. Yahoo and Google both give tracking
code freely to you, and there are other tracking programs that you can purchase
that are well worth it (remember to make sure they adhere to your search engine
advertiser's stipulations in their license agreement). I find AdSense Gold helpful.
Keywords can be optimized throughout your website to increase the revenue per
click on AdSense as well. It is beyond the scope of this article to supply all the
words, but there are definitely keyword phrases that give you $75 per click. $75
per clicks will almost definitely pay for a web site's AdWords
and Yahoo advertising.
Audiences must also be targeted. Not only people who are most likely to like the
website you are advertising, but people most likely to click the ads. Many Google
and Yahoo users that click the ads off of the main search engine, or use one or
the other to find your site, are tech savvy. Tech Savvy people are usually pretty
tired of ads and can seem to spot them a mile away. These people are almost
certainly not going to click your AdSense Ads even if they click your AdWords
Ads. Depending on your site audience, they may also be more or less tech savvy
and therefore more or less likely to click the ads.
Link Exchanges
Link exchanges occur when one site places an ad or link to your site on theirs,
and you reciprocate with an ad or link to theirs on your site. Reciprocal links
such as these are sometimes considered bad for SEO, but can be good for
Copyright  2006 Raymond C. Dukes, See for the most recent version.
- 11 -
directing traffic to your site. Other forms of link exchanges include Link Farms,
which are definitely bad for SEO. Link farms are sites with thousands of links to
other sites. Start.up websites and viral websites also post links for your pages in
exchange for a link to either them, or another site. Search engines may frown
upon these as well.
Other Methods
Other methods include Advertising on Other Sites, creating Affiliates, placing
links in Public Directories, Newsletters and Mailing List, Chat Rooms and Blogs,
and Print Ads.
MSN is the Default Web Homepage to Windows users, as is and
similar ISP homepages. People who are not tech savvy are more likely to keep
the homepage of their browser set to these pages. To make the most of click.
throughs, people can advertise on these, and the search engines that those
home pages use. This is certainly a less scrupulous way of advertising, but you
are advertising on web pages and search engines anyway, you might as well
make the most of it.
Creating Affiliates in which you give a percentage of sales can drive other people
to advertise for you. This can be a good thing, but there is a possible downside.
People may use unethical advertising methods which will brand you as a
spammer or worse. It is a necessity to place a policy agreement before signing
people up as affiliates to your site.
Placing Links in Public Directories is a plus. They are similar to search engines,
but instead of spider indexing, the links are entered by humans by hand.
Newsletters and Mailing List are methods with a bad name. Many people place
websites and email addresses on spam lists when they receive on of these. As
someone that has had to deal with getting off a blacklist, it's an extreme hassle.
To lessen the possibility of being blacklisted, send emails out one at a time
rather than sending to several people in the same address line. Also, make sure
only to send to people who subscribe, add an opt.out link, and don't use any
obvious spam words in your messages and body content. Use images if at all
possible for the majority of your text, but keep some "clean" text in the email.
Also, don't send anything to AOL if possible. AOL is very bad at adding people
indiscriminately to blacklists based on users accidentally adding your newsletters
to spam boxes.
All this said, Newsletters are still good for sales. If you send out to 1 million
people, you may get thousands of sales. If you send to Thousands of people,
you may at least get a few.

- 12 -
Chat Rooms and Blogs are good for traffic when done consistently and well. Tips
on Blogs could fill a whole new article, but feel free to research this method with
Print Ads Newspapers, Magazines, Fliers, Mailers, Want Ads, and Specialty
Newsletters. Print Ads are a whole other ballgame . one that hardly anyone who
is an Internet marketer thinks of. A large percentage of people still read printed
ads and articles. You can take advantage of this!
5. Carry Everything Out
You'll see it time and again . people get as far as planning everything, but don't
follow through.
If you don't actually push yourself to complete the plan and see everything
through, you've spent man.hours . possible time you could have been making
money on something else . and received no return. You may have even spent
money implementing half of the project, or even 90% of the project, but if you
don't complete it, there is 0% chance of profit. Not only this, but you may not
have truly applied yourself, which can be seen as a personal failure.
If you have to give yourself a treat on completing a certain task, or percentage of
the project to get through the whole thing, then I would recommend doing so.
Okay, so we have an idea now of what we want our website to be about, and that it takes
some hard work to do it. We also have a few ideas on how to advertise the site, and what
will and won’t work.
The next article gives some more information on the basics of Internet Marketing in
general, and SEO specifically.

Internet Marketing Basics
By Raymond C. Dukes
Today, let's explore the basics of SEO.
Know Your Enemy
When you are setting up your site, it is very important to first know your
competition. A big help in this is a software package called SEO Elite.
If you explore similar sites on the web related to your site, you can see how to
arrange your site better, what colors and design styles are prevalent, and how to
structure the code to your site for maximum performance.
Primarily, you Google for similar sites, explore the top sites, and write down what
you need to do to do it better. You can even check out their source code by
"view source" or "page source" in the browser menu. This will give you an idea
as to how the competition organized their code for better performance.
Optimize OnSite SEO
You particularly should know about this aspect of marketing . it's easy, and can
jump your position up in the search engines quite a bit.
1. The very first thing to learn is to use your title and alt tags.
The fewer the words in your page title, the better.
You can also use alt and title tags in images, title tags in links, and titles in
paragraphs, Divs, and spans.
2. Use Header tags . H1, H2, H3 . if you don't like the default look of
those tags, you can always alter the look in your CSS styles (cascading
style sheets)
3. Use CSS files whenever possible to decrease style code in the actual
source code. (More on this another time)
4. Use JavaScript references rather than typing the JavaScript directly
into the page . this cuts down on code as well.
5. Arrange your page in such a way that the body of the page is higher up
in the code than the navigation and footer copyrights.
Copyright  2006 Raymond C. Dukes, See for the most recent version.
- 14 -
This can be accomplished best using div layers.
6. Use meta tags . but keep them as short and concise as possible.
7. Check your keyword density . the keywords in your meta tags and
page title need to be checked in the main text of the page so that there
aren't too many, and aren't too few. There are keyword density tools freely
available (we'll discuss this another time).
8. Use Strong, Emphasis, and Underline on your keywords and phrases
throughout the text on your page . but only use one of the three on any
single keyword or phrase. Also only do so once . don't continue to
highlight a word or phrase in this fashion throughout the entire page. This
would annoy people and the search engines.
People won't find your site unless you have links going to it. Link exchanges,
banner exchanges, Google AdWords, link directories, tag and ping (social
bookmarking), and Blog.and.Ping methods are the most widely used.
To find out the links going into your competitor's sites, you should use Yahoo!
with the following syntax:
This will show most or all sites linking to your competitor. You can contact these
sites, or similar ones, and see if they will put links to your site as well.
Also, always remember not to submit to search engines using the submission
form . it's horribly slow (it takes months), and ineffective. It is better to use the
other methods listed above.
Finding the Right Keywords
Targeting the right audience is a big necessity. If you want to target search
engines, you need to gear your site towards keywords that you have a chance of
getting to the top of the search results with. This can be found by simply using
possible keywords in your searches in Yahoo! and Google. Once you find
keywords with a small competing result number, you'll have narrowed your
choices down.
Copyright  2006 Raymond C. Dukes, See for the most recent version.
- 15 -
If you want to shoot in the dark, you can use these terms and see how many
people show up on your site through a year or so . if time isn't important to you.
The better way is to use software such as Goodkeywords
( and SEO Analyzer (predecessor to Keyword Elite).
There are a few analyzers out there that are named 'SEO Analyzer', and can be
found easily on Google. (Although I prefer the first program I used from Bryxen Software).
What you want to look for is a program you like that does the following:
Checks the keywords on several search engines for the number of competing
results, and which tell the number of times that keyword was searched.
If nobody is searching for the term, it's a worthless keyword. If there are too
many competing results, it’s a worthless keyword.
You'll notice that if you target a specific set of keywords, you'll also rise in the
associated terms anyway, so you'll be able to compete with the 'impossible'
results later . after you've made headway with the lesser results.
I hope that this helps you out, and I'll see you next time with more details.
Nice, eh? We now know that:
You need to scope out what your competition is doing so you can do it better.
You need to optimize your site’s source code so Google can read it well.
You need to have as many quality in-bound links to your site as possible.
You shouldn’t submit your site to Google, you should use Social Bookmarking
sites, the Blog and Ping Method, and link partners.
5. You should optimize what keywords your site uses.
Before we move on to the next article, let’s discuss Keywords a little more.
Many people use GoodKeywords, and/or SEOElite when choosing keywords. There are
also sites that advertise and sell high-payout keywords for people who are attempting to
make money using AdWords in their pages.
Although SEOElite is a superb program that I highly recommend, it isn’t the only choice.
For Keyword choices, for example, is free. You can also use Google
AdWords’ keyword selection tool (you need an AdWords account), or Yahoo!’s
Keyword Selection Tool . The Google and Yahoo! Alternatives should be taken with a
grain of salt, however, since these are for keyword BIDS, not keywords that are
necessarily being searched. In addition, you’ll still need to take into account how many
people are competing against you in Google searches.
Copyright  2006 Raymond C. Dukes, See for the most recent version.
- 16 -
The makers of SEOElite also now have a program called KeywordElite, which is more
helpful than SEOElite in the field of Keyword choices.
If You are lucky enough to have access to Google Analytics, or a similar service from
your ISP, then you can also look up what keywords people may have used to get to your
site already. This will help in both your meta tags, and in what keywords to target in your
ad campaigns (mostly Google/Yahoo!).
Speaking of Advertising, the next article is on some of the alternatives to the big search
By Raymond C. Dukes
What's a Vortal?
I can hear a lot of people asking that.
Vortals are also called "Vertical Industry Portals." Portals that display vertical
ads – PPC (pay per click) ads to targeted audiences.
Vertical ads are usually set up in a similar way to Google AdSense. The ads may
actually look EXACTLY like AdSense, in fact. The only real differences tend to
be that the advertisements have lower conversion rates, cheaper CPC (cost per
click), and are more likely to reach the top bid.
Although the Verticals have fewer people clicking the ads, since the ads are on
sites similar to the ad . Cat Food Ads on a cat site, sports memorabilia on a
sports site, etc. . clicks are more likely to result in sales.
The real importance of Vortals, however, comes in the form of Google
AdWords becoming unavailable to the general public.
AdWords and Yahoo! Search Marketing are currently available to everyone,
and are likely to stay so as long as you can afford the CPC. As you probably
know, the costs on Google AdWords usually go up. Everyone wants top position,
so that their ad is seen more than the others.
The problem with this comes with the advent of large companies using AdWords
to brand recognition. The goal becomes not sales, but just having the most
Usually the cost of top rank is limited to the amount of sales that can be

When you are advertising for advertising's sake, you don't necessarily have a
budget. When you have thousands or millions of dollars at your disposal,
you can quickly control the CPC market on Google or Yahoo!
Enter Vortals.
Cheaper, smaller, larger in number, more available. It's already hard to get top

Note: CPM stands for Cost per Thousand. Usually for impressions – when people “see”
the ad, not necessarily click it. This question has come up more than once when people
have started out on CPC/PPC advertising and I thought I’d mention it now.
As we discussed earlier, there are many alternatives to AdWords and similar services.
One of the more popular methods is called “Social Bookmarking” – a method which far
outshines Vortals.

Tag and Ping, Blog and Ping
By Raymond C. Dukes

Blog and Ping
Blog and Ping is a method by which people are indexed by search engines
incredibly fast . usually within the first week or two. This method is much faster
than submitting a site to a search engine, which can take 3 or more months.
The method is fast and easy:
1. Add a Blog to the site
2. Create accounts in search engine home pages such as MyYahoo!
3. Create an RSS feed for the Blog (RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication)
4. Subscribe to the RSS feed so that it loads into the search engine home page
(MyYahoo! or similar)
5. Create Blog entries 3 times a week
Some Blog subscriber sites include:

Tag and Ping
Tag and Ping is also known as Social Bookmarking. It's a quick way to get a ton
of hits to your website.
Social Bookmarking websites are repositories of links similar to link directories
and search engines. Rather than sites being added by spider robots (like
Google), or added by individuals to a directory (such as ).
These tagging sites usually have a member, and once logged in, allows
the surfer to bookmark a site while surfing. Each bookmark allows for a title, the
URL, a description of the site, and tags . keywords for the bookmark.
Some tagging sites also allow an image to be associated with the bookmark.
These are often viewed more than others . sometimes images stay on the
topmost search result page longer. Tagged images especially, which is why has so much business.
Tags are used for searching the bookmarks. When a person enters the tag into
the search field on the tagging site, they receive search results much like
Google, but with those bookmarks that are "tagged" with the keyword.
This is great in theory, but in practice, many people spam with junk mail
bookmarks. Still, you can find some great sites you wouldn't otherwise find in a
search engine.

There are many more alternates to search engines. The next Blog article reviews a few of these. (This is the
first half, the second half of the article is continued later.)
Search Engines and more
by Raymond C. Dukes
There are dozens if not hundreds of small search engines trying to make a niche
for themselves, there are 4 or 5 main search engines, there are dozens of social
bookmarking sites (again, 4 or 5 main ones), and hundreds of search directories
(1 or 2 impressive ones).
So... where do we get started?
As we discussed earlier, you should never submit to one of the main search
engines manually. It's far better to use the tagging method, or the blogging
method. There are other methods available as well . including submitting to the
directories and smaller search engines.
First, let's go over what each of these types of listings are for those who forgot,
or don't know already.
Directories . These are sites you can submit your website to manually, along
with a description and possibly some keyword tags or specific category section.
These are usually manually checked by an administrator, and approved or
declined based on that review. The placement in these directories can be free, or
paid. The BIGGY directory is, there are a few others that many people
use, but if you are accepted into Dmoz, you should also appear in these. There
are also many smaller directories such as those found in the Yazooy free
directory Free Directory.
Search Engines . As you should know, the main search engine everyone
focuses on is Google. There are many other search engines, including variations
of Google in other countries. Those engines in other countries tend to be more
lenient with Page Rank and placement. Those engines that aren't owned by
Google are those such as, and MSN is important because
most people who buy a computer have their Internet homepage set to
by default. AOL is important because it is one of the most popular ISPs in
Search engines can have live people who review sites for quality regularly, as
well as inspect new submissions. Descriptions for sites in the search engine
listings tend to be reaped from the site itself . taken from the body text. Keywords

sites. Meta Tags can also be used for the keywords and descriptions as well.
If you do not submit your site to Google, the Google robot will most likely spider
your site, indexing it anyway . it just may take a few months to years due to the
current volume of websites. If you manually submit to Google, it may take
months to be approved for your indexing, again due to the volume of sites. Tag
and Ping, Blog and Ping, and Link Trades are better methods for being indexed.
Remember that placement of your site in search results in Google rely on not
only your content, but Page Rank, and inbound links.
PR (Page Rank) can be found with help from the Google Toolbar, or similar PR
toolbars available from various sites. These can ironically be found in Google
search results.
There is also a site which provides PR buttons for your site or blog. As of this
publication, the link is:
Social Bookmarking . Tagging sites, or social bookmarking sites, are sites
where people can submit sites they like or own, along with descriptions and
search keyword "tags". They usually show up in results of searches on the social
bookmarking site depending upon popularity of the bookmark, and the keyword
tags. A variety of sites were mentioned in the earlier posts, and a list of some of
the more popular ones can be found on the Yazooy product catalog page. Fark,
Furl, Reddit,, Blinklist, and Blinkbits have been helpful to me before.
OK... so there we have it on the listings.
Let's discuss some of the places you can get some promotions real quick . this
goes towards inbound links and traffic generation. More inbound links, the
quicker you get indexed, the higher your placement in search engine results, and
the more traffic you are likely to obtain.
Press Release Sites . There are many sites that will offer press releases, but
only a few will give you placement somewhere that your release can be seen .
well, for free anyway. Oh, and remember that anyone can make a press release
. you don't need a huge business to do so. One place I recommend for press
releases is Press Monkey.
Want Ads and Yellowpages . Great places to get a free listing. You can find
these easily in Google or other searches. There seem to be more every day, and
are often for only one region or city in the U.S. , but you can find some that are
for everyone or anyone. You'll likely only get a dozen or so visits per month per
listing site, still, it's a good start. Also, if you are listed in enough of these, it can

equal a large number of pageviews.
Banner Sites . Free or paid, watch out for the ones that have The pop.
ups often crash people's computers, so it isn't a good idea to do a banner
exchange with those that do allow them. For other banner sites, remember to
check conversion rates and whether the banners are free or not.
Pixel Sites . There are sites you can add a small pixel banner, sprite, or button
to for either free or for up to $1 per pixel. These sites can have directories,
banner exchanges, link exchanges, and all manner of other options as well. Pixel
sites are often fun, images can be adult or in nature. Pixel sites can
generate either a huge number of hits, or a few hits. If you have placed ads on
many of these pixel sites, it can lead to an avalanche of traffic.
Paid Banners/ Flash Ads/ Links . AdWords, Yahoo! Search Marketing, Vortals,
and small advertising companies with websites as members are all good paid
ads. It is necessary to track these ads and their conversions closely to make
certain that they are paying off.
Link Exchanges . Link Exchanges are big boosts in popularity. On search
engines, anyway. To find who is linking to who, you can load and
use the search:
Where is the site you are checking inbound links to.
There is also a free service you can add a link or button to in your Blog or site
which will tell you who links in. I found this one quite by accident.

There are several websites which will submit your link for free to various search engines.
Please remember that submitting your site more than once per month to the same search engine will most
likely ban your site from the search engine. Submitting to the search engines, at most, once every three
months is recommended. This usually isn’t necessary since once your site is in the search engines, it will
likely be indexed regularly by Spider programs.
Some of these free submission sites include:
Aeiwi, Alexa, Amfibi, BigFinder, Burf, Cipinet, EntireWeb, ExactSeek, FyberSearch, Google,
Homerweb, JDGO, MixCat, NetWhat, ScrubTheWeb, SearchIt, SearchSight, TowerSearch,
Walhello, WhatUSeek

In addition to these free services, most websites that offer submissions also offer a paid version of the
service with hundreds or thousands of search engines submitted to for a small fee.
Besides those listed above, I have used services such as Godaddy’s Traffic Blazer, and 1&1’s Site Submit.
The search engines that paid services submit to change every day. Comparing how many thousands of
sites you can submit to in the paid services is a necessity. Comparing how many quality search
engines the service submits to is also a necessity.
The main point to remember with paid submissions, however, is that you usually don’t have to submit
but once – and that “Thousands of submissions” isn’t necessary. Most of the main search engines only
place weight on a few directories – being the main one. If the directory has a PR (Page Rank) of
at least 2 (some say 3) it can weigh some towards inbound links, and therefore search results positioning.
From experience, only 5-20 clicks to my sites result from these lesser directories every month. Also, only 5
or so of these lesser directories made any contribution to my Google or Yahoo ranking. Still, some people
prefer to catch as many stray inbound clicks as they can.

In addition, I’ve included a list of several hundred link directories collected through various listings and
Google Searches. I’ve submitted many of my sites to several of these as well. Most of these directories
allow you to submit to for free. Please remember that link directories are created or taken down all the
time, and those that stay online may stop offering free placement for a period of time whenever they wish.

Black Hat SEO
By Raymond C. Dukes
Tuesday, February 21. 2006
Hi all! Today I'm going to speak briefly about Black Hat SEO.
As anyone that's been in internet marketing for any real amount of time knows,
Black Hat is what we call search engine optimization that takes advantage of .
and abuses . search engine weaknesses.
At the moment, Google and some other search engines LOVE new content. The
easiest, and most frowned upon methods of gaining this new content is by the
following three methods:
1. Slogging . Spam blogging. Jamming the Internet super highway with dozens
of fake blogs, all using either the same information, purchased articles, or
information ripped from other websites. These usually have articles optimized
towards keywords . this is to make AdSense money. Lots of it. They can have
dozens or hundreds of affiliates and moneymaking schemes as well. To make
more money.
2. Article Spamming . Fake article websites that emphasize AdSense keywords
known to be worth more money than others. Generally the same as Slogging,
but probably no blog.
3. RSS feeds . Sites composed entirely of RSS feeds, also for advertisements.
These allow people to make money off of ads, affiliate campaigns, referrals,
AdSense, and PPC ads. It also allows people to increase their Page Rank by
several methods.
When dozens of sites all, all with a similar theme, all with good appeal
to niche markets, it creates a type of link farm. Each site literally feeds the
others, building momentum until they blow past everyone in the search engines.
What does all this do to search engines?
Well, it pisses everyone off.
Let me explain, if all these fake sites with the same content are all at the top of
the search engine, then you lose any hope of finding any other information. It's
all Xerox scans of sites. Both the person searching for information loses out, and
the people who have legit websites lose out.
Copyright  2006 Raymond C. Dukes, See for the most recent version.
- 35 -
In the long run, the search engine also loses out . if everyone is unable to find
information on the search engine, they stop using it.
Now if we carry this out to the logical next step, we see that the people who were
living it large off of cheating the system no longer have a customer base. The
funds dry up, and the spammer has to find some other way of getting residual
The final end result, is that everyone loses out, search engines crumble,
Google and Yahoo close up shop, and it becomes incredibly hard to find
any semblance of order on the internet. Since businesses, students, and the
public in general lose the productivity booster that is the net, society slowly
Before you know it, we're back in the stone ages, smacking the computers
with clubs made from elephant bones.
Now do you really want that to happen?
Neither does Google. If nothing else, Google doesn't want to lose it's market
shares to some greedy marketers. As a result, they have started to employ not
only anti.spam algorithms in the latest version of the search engine, but they
have started to employ PEOPLE. Live. Tech.Savvy. Surfers.
Websites are dropping like flies if sites are even suspected of spamming,
they are blacklisted from the engine.
The best policy at this time is to NOT engage in Black Hat. Steer clear of it,
avoid it like the plague, because it will KILL your site.
Hmmm... did I say briefly?

Spam Junk Messages in Blogs
By Raymond C. Dukes
Wednesday, June 7. 2006
I'm almost certain that this blog entry will have hundreds of junk mail messages
in time.
Spam. Who wants it? Who needs it?
Answer: only the people sending it.
One of the greatest annoyances of Blogs is the spam messages that keep
popping up.
On Yazooy, blog entries are monitored for advertisements. For instance, if you
are selling Viagra, Casinos, or Matchmaker websites, you're probably going to
find that the entry you make has surprisingly disappeared.
I only mention this because deleting hundreds of fake messages every night
tends to make the moderators slightly weary.
What's the message on today's SEO entry? DON'T SPAM.
You hate to get spam, so does everyone else.
It turns your customers against you. Many affiliate programs now make it a huge
point to highlight the anti.spam clause in their affiliate contracts. It's gotten THAT
bad. Check out's affiliate signups, or any affiliate signup, really.
More and more anti.spam legislation is in effect, and affiliates consider it a big
fat black hat . grounds for dismissal and possible lawsuits for tarnishing their
good names. Names worth millions of dollars.
So please remember not to contribute, it can get you a small possibility of cash
in the short.term, but it can cost in the long term.

With so many options for SEO and internet marketing, you’ll need to know a little more about how to
choose your keywords and title tags. The next Blog entry is just that. Information on Keyword Selection.
But How Do You Pick The Right Titles?
(Search Engines and more part2)
by Raymond C. Dukes
For page titles, they should usually not be longer than 80 characters at most. Most search
engines will truncate the TITLE tag wording in their results to 50.80 characters. In fact, though it
will truncate to 50.80, it's better yet to keep to even fewer words.
You need the most exact, best keywords arranged in the briefest, yet coherent way.
To find search words . keywords/ tags . whatever, we need to know the keywords which most
describe your site. We also need to know how often the words are searched, and how many
sites are competing for placement in the search engine for this term.
SEO Elite is the best way to find this out, Good Keywords ( is also a huge
Overture's keyword suggestion (Yahoo! Search Marketing) tool is also an alternative to SEO
As is the Google AdWords keyword suggestion tool (you need to have an AdWords account
What you are looking for is to find out how many times a very relevant, used keyword in your
page is searched for. If it is search for 1 million times, that's excellent, but most aren't.
After you find one with at least a few thousand searches, you need to check to see how many
websites are competing for top placement. This can be done by typing your keyword into Google
or Yahoo . the number of search results is the number of competing sites.
If there are 1 billion search results, it is highly unlikely that your site will be able to make any
headway against all those other people's websites. The most likely working combination for
traffic is when you have a large number of searches, and few competing websites.
The way you usually cut down on the number of searches and competition is to make your
keyword phrase more specific, possibly adding words to the search term. The keyword "Cat"
becomes "Calico Cat" becomes "Frisky Calico Cat". If this doesn't help, you may need to switch
to a different keyword for your focus. Say, you switch to "Felines" rather than "Cat", and then
narrow it down again.
Sometimes your web site's focus will return very bad ratios no matter
what. In this case, it is best to either pick the least horrible keywords, or to switch the site focus
You see, just about everyone seems to have a website or two now, which makes finding good

keywords harder and harder. There are simply too many sites competing for the same search
You'll usually find that when you narrow down your keywords in titles, your site is also indexed
for the main title, and sometime synonyms as well. This means that your site can compete with
those huge competitor searches while you are trying to make it to the top of the smaller
searches. When you reach the top of the smaller searches, you may be ready to compete
against the larger searches as well. This gives you a head start, and more coverage in more
searches than you would have than simply using the single keyword "Cats" or "Felines".
The third and final part of this Blog entry is continued farther into the eBook, but let’s
continue first with information on how to advertise better for eCommerce stores, and how
to monetize your non-eCommerce sites.
AdSense is usually used for Monetization, and many Blog entries on the subject have
been republished on following pages.
eCommerce stores are always given the recommendation that, upon the completion of the
site, the first thing to do is submit the online store’s products to Froogle (or Google Base;
whichever name they are using now.)
In addition, eCommerce stores can add a huge number of free products, as well as other
people’s products. There is no cost for creating the products, and the profits are usually
much higher than investing in your own product development.
All of these subjects are discussed in how-to fashion in the following Blog articles.

Froogle eCommerce's Friend
Wednesday, March 1. 2006
Have you ever heard of Froogle?
"What's Froogle?" you ask.
Froogle is a free listing service through Google for internet stores. You list your products in an
xml feed, or an Excell spreadsheet and tada! You're products become instantly available to
millions of internet shoppers.
Products are listed cheapest first, however, so price gauging isn't an option. (Not that any of you
would do that, right?)
Froogle should be the third thing you do as an internet store . right after internal SEO, and listing
yourself on
Since we're on the subject of internet stores, remember to get an eTrust certification for your
store. Certification will boost sales, and your image.
What should we do next? Well, how about some products to stock your internet store?
I ran across a couple links, recommended by several top marketers. Some offer drop.shipping,
other offer affiliate programs:
Yahoo Store Builder .
Commission Junction University .
Commission Junction.
Share a Sale .
Link Connector .
There are more out there! And remember, a real affiliate or drop shipper is FREE. There are no
minimums or monthly subscriptions. If they have either, it's probably a rip off.
Happy shopping!
Note: Froogle is now called “Google Base”.

Shopping Cheaply, Selling Cheaper
By Raymond C. Dukes
Monday, July 17. 2006
Everyone knows to turn a profit with online stores . any stores, really . you need
to buy low, sell high. It's the fundamental of the business world.
If you want to sell something on eBay, you need to buy products at a wholesale
discount so that your profits aren't outweighed by your listing expenses.
If you want to run a computer network company, or computer repair company,
you need to buy at as deep a discount as you can (like on Discount Network
The same goes for DVD stores, watch stores, Bookstores, and every other store
But the real profit comes when you take the time and money to invest in your
own membership in a wholesale warehouse.
It is true that real wholesale warehouses don't charge a monthly fee, but instead
charge a fee.
However, sometimes a monthly fee is acceptable when you are receiving a lot of
For instance, with, you get your own online presence, own

Shopster is a massive savings in your setup time, and overhead. By far, it is the
greatest online savings I have seen to date for a start.up. It is even possible to
receive a free trial, and the modest $30/month fee once you decide to stay with
them is a phenomenal savings!
There IS a $99 setup fee, Don't worry, though! If you use a referral code when
signing up, you get to WAIVE THE SETUP!
Here's the Shopster Referral Code: 7VWAH6E5AW2MZ
If you want to know, I’m sharing this code with you because I want to make money. I get an

Affiliates Demystified
By Raymond C. Dukes
Saturday, February 25. 2006
Hello again, online readers!
Tonight's subject for Online Marketing is on demystifying affiliates!
Affiliates are one of the many ways that online marketers make money.
You know what I'm talking about . those pedantic popup boxes that we all
love to block, the perturbing popunders that we discover hiding below the
browsers like worms under a rock, and the banners Google loves to ban (and
we don't even see anymore we've tuned them out so well.)
But, truth be told, online businesses benefit from the occasional endorsement,
and definitely benefit from other people affiliating with them. Many an internet
empire has been built on affiliations . even the big boys such as Macromedia
(Adobe), and Best Buy have affiliate programs. Definitely,, and . they have some of the best.
You probably know how it's supposed to work.
First, you go to the dealer's online program provider and sign up for free (a place
like,,, or ClickBank) or to one of the
big boys I mentioned before.
Then you commence to sign up for a few siterelated affiliates that you know
will benefit you. Not too many . moderation is the key. Text links are best .
nothing too flashy, it's just going to annoy someone if it's a pop.anything, and
banners are almost invisible to surfers these days.
Then, you add these affiliates to pages, dispersed so that they aren't
crowding text. You're trying to be careful not to it, because you don't
want to be blacklisted by Google as a spammer right?
Then you proceed to optimize your pages for the search engines, promoting in a
way that also won't get you blacklisted. No spamming message boards,
forums, guestbooks, newsgroups, nonopted emails, popups, pop
unders, spyware, adware, or other annoying things. right?
Okay . We know this isn't what's going on!
My email box wouldn't be jammed full of hundreds of spam letters, and I
wouldn't need all three spyware removers, nor the two antivirus programs,
nor the three popup blockers installed on my computer if this was the case!

- 44 -
It would put the computer and email protection companies out of business.
As was mentioned in the previous SEO posts on, we KNOW that
the websites spamming us like crazy will be blocked in short order. It's only a
short time before they are. Total eventuality.
But for those of us who DO adhere to the rules, it pretty much goes the way I
outlined it, except for a few *ahem* minor differences.
You see, due to the crack.down on affiliates, there are some pretty trigger.happy
people ready to hit the ol' delete button to your site in the search engines.
You don't even want to look like you're going to think about spamming someone.
Every affiliate link needs to be masked so that Google doesn't lay the smack.
down on you.
Not only this, but if you want to start up your own affiliate program, it's best to do
it in a way that's round.about. The large sites can get away with it because they
are big.time brand names. You probably can't.
Besides, there are a lot of spiteful or anti.affiliate people out there that want to
hurt your profits as much as possible because they blame their spam woes on
They'll often times copy the link your ad has, paste it, and remove the affiliate id
number. Here's an example*,
becomes The affiliate code doesn't know
who did the referral, so you don't get any cash for the click.
This method of stealing affiliate money is called 'hijacking'. It happens all the
Make sure when you are in your affiliate admin panel that you are able to make
a 'masked url' or 'safe url' or similar that will make it impossible to hijack your
referral fee from the affiliate campaign.
If you have your own software, make sure you have this capability as well.
Super slick affiliate campaigns can also set up your own url for each advert,
and make it so that going to the main website without the affiliate code results in
no special offer or deal for the person hijacking.
Until next time...

Breaking Up Pages for AdSense
By Raymond C. Dukes
Sunday, April 9. 2006
This one's a quickie!
If you have long long pages that scroll for forever and a day, the people reading
your page will probably get tired and give up in short order.
The best way to fix that problem is to shorten your pages and add more . break
the pages up into a sequence.
Most people are running monitor resolutions of 1024x768 or 1280x960 now.
Many people advocate using web pages set for 800x600 resolutions for the older
Either way you optimize your page, if your page fits on the screen without much
scrolling, it's a definite plus for your web surfer audience.
It also gives you more pages for your ads. Remember! Ads are best towards the
top or center of the page.
If you have more pages, you have more page tops and page centers to place
those ads!
That's it for now. I hope this information was useful to you!

Earning More from AdSense
By Raymond C. Dukes
Sunday, February 26. 2006
Tonight, I'm giving a brief hint on how to make more from AdSense.
Remove AdSense from off your pages.
That's right! Remove it.
AdSense now uses a type of smart pricing system.
Instead of receiving a percentage out of the bid for every click, say 50% or 75%,
you have to worry about a whole new set of factors.
These factors include how many clicks you receive versus impressions,
possibly how long a person stays on the site they clicked to, and how relevant
the ads are to your page.
Every week or two, your conversion rates are reevaluated . if your clicks on a
given page are too low versus impressions, you start to earn less of a
percentage. Smartpricing on AdSense evaluates the site as a whole rather
than just the bad performance pages!
So, removing ads from pages with bad click.through rates will increase your
conversion rate and your percentage of money per click.
Remember not to click your own ads as well, as that will result in no profits for
the click, and possibly being banned.
Now you should be able to see some slightly better results.
Until next time!

Alternatives to AdSense
By Raymond C. Dukes
Tuesday, February 28. 2006
AdSense has a tendency to get nasty with the people advertising for them.
You get as little pay as possible per click, you get charged as much as possible
for advertising in AdWords...
Instead of a consistent amount of pay per click, you have to rely on a
complicated system that could give your SITE a rating that's too low
because of a few bad pages. The good pages could get a lower percentage per
click than they deserve.
In AdWords you get as much as 20% overcharges, plus you don't know whether
the clicks are valid because of rapid false clicks.
Not only this, but you could be blacklisted from AdSense if you are so much as
suspected for false clicks.
If you are blacklisted... what then?
Well, if you're fed up with AdSense or AdWords, there are plenty of alternatives.
I'll list a few to get you started:
Micro Ad Serve . Micro buttons/banners similar to "AdSense meets Pixel Ads"
Affiliate Sensor . ClickBank advertisements in an AdSense format
BidClix . The advertisers bid on your ad space. Now that's a switch, eh?
Intellitxt . dynamic context banners with fixed CPM.
Nice, ne?

Free Online Products for Your Store!
By Raymond C. Dukes
Sunday, April 9. 2006
Ever notice how there are so many websites out there giving their content away
for free?
There are plenty of source code projects that give software code for free. Many
music sites that make their own sound effects and give them away. Poetry,
stories, and books are published all the time online and given away for
Some of these are shareware, others freeware, and yet others are public
The differences are hard to see sometimes, but they are all very different indeed
if you take the time to research.
Shareware is usually freely distributed, but has limitations built into it, or is an
incomplete product. You also can't put your name on it as the author unless you
made it.
Freeware is copyrighted . just like shareware or regular products. The difference
is that sometimes it's freely distributed, and sometimes has restrictions.
However, it is totally free, and is a full product. You can't say you are the author
to this one either, and you can't resell it without permission. You can, however,
get ideas for your own products, or download these to enjoy for yourself
Public Domain
There isn't much of this created any longer, but you can find it. It's released to
the public. 100% public owned. You can sell it after you download it for free
This is most commonly available in the form of software code, but can be almost
Many people put their own name on it as well, but if you claim it as "yours" be
prepared, other people may have done so already . and the original can still be
downloaded for free.
Also, most public domain works aren't available online. Old books, manuals,
artwork, songs . they all have copyrights attached to them that expire after a
certain time. You'll have to look the specifics up at the U.S. copyrights office

website, but you can find plenty of useful products you can sell without worry of
reseller fees or licenses.
Remember, though, there are several copyright laws that are in effect for works
created during different times. Mickey Mouse was to become public domain
recently, and new laws were written into effect specifically to prevent it and
similar instances from occurring.
Copyrighted works that were created recently have the highest protection yet
given to people.
This shouldn't discourage you, however, there's still a huge treasure trove
available to you for your online store if you put a little time into looking for it!
In addition to this, I’d like to let everyone know
that there ARE plenty of works online in the
public domain. The places you go to find them
tend to be closely guarded secrets – who want to
let every possible competitor know where to find
There are a few places worth exploring, ones which I stumbled on by accident. There’s no harm in
mentioning it now since most people haven’t gotten this far into the eBook before deleting it or archiving it.
Besides, if people do read about these resources, it can only help traffic to my site for downloading this
eBook, right?
Project Gutenberg
Project Gutenberg offers thousands of public domain eBooks for download. Remember to double-check
the copyrights in your area to make sure it’s okay – in America anything prior to 1923 is solidly in Public
Domain. Benjamin Franklin's autobiography and “American Classics” such as works by Edgar Allen
Poe, or Rudyard Kipling (Jungle Book) are included in this era. In addition, folklore and legends are

Public Domain Riches
Pretty much the same thing as the previous link, a how-to of Public Domain publishing.
A place to sell your publications. Highly popular by online marketers. You pay a monthly fee for inactivity,
and other fees may apply.
A similar site to ClickBank, but you can have a free - yet limited - account.
You can sell products in a similar way to PayLoadz. The first product can be added for free, but there’s still
a fee for processing.
Internet Public Library
20, 000 titles you can browse; Titles’ homepages are now given rather than maintaining them on their
Search eBooks
Easy search feature with homepage and publication link results. You will need to research whether the titles
are copyrighted elsewhere, however.
Free e-Books
Some of these are free for free redistribution, but most are not for resale.
Planet PDF
Free PDF eBooks. I believe you need to make your own version to sale these titles. I don’t believe the PDF
files themselves are free for anything but download and reading.
A great resource for Public Domain, Freeware, and shareware software products. Remember to read any
licenses. Most of the items here fall under the GNU open source license.

Selling Things
So far, we’ve talked about on-site optimization, off-site optimization, advertising, and what you can sell.
What we haven’t covered is HOW to sale it. Let’s be 100% honest here. All the traffic in the world and all
the in-bound links in the world – heck, the best products in the world won’t mean anything at all unless you
can sell it.
The whole purpose of an eCommerce or monetized site is to make money.
It’s what makes the difference between SEO specialist, and Internet Marketer.
You’ve seen all the people advertising stating,
“Look at ME!
Do what I do, and you’ll make a million bucks!”
Most of the time, these people are advertising some product that helps you optimize your site, or some
product to bring you more traffic.
It’s more than that! There’s far more into selling things than sticking your template site up on the web, and
sending thousands of people to the site.
You have to know how to sell it. There’s a science to it. There are many, many books on the subject
of convincing people you’re right.
You have to learn public speaking principles that are applicable to the online world. You need to learn the
psychology of people.
You hear tales that people who have learned how to do this. People who REALLY know how to sale. They
make their students, adepts, whatever – they make them swear an oath. To do good, and only good with the
techniques they learn.
There’s a responsibility, an oath of sorts too, that we discussed previously – “ I will not Spam”
Well, this one is even more important – “I
will not abuse my Powers of Persuasion”
Say it with me now, “I will not abuse my Powers of Persuasion.”
Ok… Let’s learn how to sale ice to an Eskimo, and sand to a Saharan.

The Basis of Online Sales
The basis of online sales is believability. There is no way more effective of reaching
believability with your audience than telling the truth.
In all things be sincere. Be truthful. Be believable.
Such a simple concept; such a difficult concept.
Sales persons have a very difficult time in adhering to this rule. It goes against the
grain. It’s counter to everything you’ve ever heard. And it works.
I’ve used Google AdWords and many manner of other advertising programs available,
and don’t you know it – advertising to push a sale would always result in fewer clickthroughs than simply stating what it was that was being sold. Straight forward and to the
“We carry all the best widgets!
These fine widgets will be a great addition to your home or office.”
“We carry 300 widgets. Top sellers include: red, blue, and green.
Name-brands such as company.”
I received roughly 163% more clicks on the second template advertisement than the first.
I was amazed at the difference myself. The only conclusion I could come to was that
people had simply heard and read too many advertisements trying to sell them something.
Every ad looks the same, so they are ignored. If ad isn’t ignored, you notice how
much the person is trying to take you hard-earned cash.
Approaching the customer with just the facts instead has an almost calming neutrality to
it. There’s no bull, the ad is simply letting you know what is in stock.
This goes further with letting people know why you are selling the product.
For instance, when I first started really marketing my site, I would tell people that I was
selling my products online because I wanted to retire from my current rut. I wanted to
work when I wanted, where I wanted, on what I wanted to work on. To do that, I needed
to make a living online, hence the site and the products.
It was true, and what’s more, people wanted to help me do it.
I’ve seen sites on the net that have taken this principle and come away with enough
money for them to retire. Take “The Million Dollar Homepage” for instance.

Who doesn’t know about Alex Tew? He started the website with the novel idea that he’d
sell space on his web page for $1 U.S.A. per pixel, because he was a student and he
wanted to pay for his college with the proceeds.
Of course, the concept caught on when marketers noticed that a major amount of traffic
was being generated from these teeny tiny advertisements. Still, he would have never
sold even a single pixel if it were not for the fact that he was up front and honest, telling
people what the money was for.
Looking at any of the internet marketer websites from the big names, we can notice right
away that certain principles are being applied.
The Rich Jerk
“Stop Being a Pathetic Loser and Start Making Millions.”
What I see from looking at this site is that the author uses shock as his first and foremost weapon. He’s
conceited, maybe… but he definitely knows how to shock you. Also, while most people are trying to
politely sell you something, he’s in your face acting anything but. This reversal on the norm can be
considered a “breath of fresh air” by some people.
Ultimate Wealth Package
“Congratulations! You now have access to a Proven Money Making
System that will create multiple income streams for you. No pervious
experience required!”
I like congratulations. That positive reinforcement makes anyone who’s had a rough boss feel ecstatic.
Not only that, but right from the start, this page tells you what you want to hear. Thousands of dollars. Most
important letter you’ve ever read. Then instead of telling you outright what it is, the proverbial carrot is
dangled in front of your eyes – making you read on to try to get at least a single bite out of that sweet,
delicious veggie. It’s a tactic everyone’s seen at least a dozen times, but it always sucks us right in. Heck, I
want to find out more myself.
That isn’t the only tactic being used here, either. A letter to you – personally is being used. This gives the
reader a feeling of familiarity with the person doing the sale.
Have you ever seen the Geico Gecko commercial where our scaly friend tells us that his website gives us
quotes “just for us” and how people like feeling special and welcome? It’s the same thing here.
I consider the Ultimate Wealth Package page very well done. If the page is any indication, then the
marketing strategies and residual income possibilities from this site are well worth purchasing. The
marketer obviously knows his stuff.
AdWords Miracle
"You're about to learn the "$300/day Adwords Secrets" that they
don't want you to know about..."
Value, Value, Value. I can’t say this enough, if your product gives real value to the customer, speak up and
proclaim it. Let your customer know what it is you are selling them, and how much value it is to them.

Google Profits
“If you have a spare 30 minutes a day, you too can make $1400.37 or
more every single month.”
Exact numbers are being used here. I’ve seen this used so many times, and I know it works. 30 minutes a
day. Every month. And $1400.37? Why not $1500 or $1400? Being as specific as you can establishes
Let’s Review.
Honesty is the best policy
Tell people why you’re selling
Tell people why it’s valuable to them
Novelty sells
Familiarity sells
Let them feel special
A bit of mystery keeps them reading
Be specific; credible
Pretty good so far. Let’s talk about another method we’ve all probably seen before.
I know I’m a fool for doing it, but I’ve been duped on more than one occasion with
“Special One-Time Offers” and offers that “Expire in 30 Seconds”, even “24 Hour Only
We all know good and well that those one-time offers are being given out by more than
one person. If you look hard enough, you’re going to find another copy. Or you could just
sign up a second time for whatever the offer came from.
Expires in 30 seconds? Just click again on the link that got you to the page. Or heck, click
the “refresh” button on the browser.
And as for 24 hour sales… There’ll always be another one.
I’ve received hundreds of emails claiming that sales were for this one time only. Waiting
a few days, I received another one claiming that the sale was “extended”.
Simply put, people artificially hype up the scarcity of their products all the time.
Everyone does it sooner or later; we’re all guilty.
The thing is, whether the product is actually rare, or limited, or not… people can’t resist
grabbing that limited time offer.

Another concept that’s related is “Download this Free …” – Who on Earth turns down
free stuff??
Free eBooks, Free MP3s, Free Movies, Free Pictures… people like getting something for
This is often a way that people boost traffic to their site, or boost signups to their
newsletters. Giving something away for free at the site, or after a person signs up.
This eBook, for example, is a free download. Anybody can go to and grab a
copy. Moreover, it is freely distributed – meaning that people can give it away as an
incentive to other people.
With links to in the book, traffic is being generated back to my site. If you
publish your own eBooks, the same can be done for you. (by the way, feel free to drop me a
line, and if your eBook is really good I’ll probably post it as a free download on one of my sites as well.)
Well, that about does it for now. There are other topics that should be addressed in later
versions of this eBook – more on the Psychology of marketing, auto responders,
automation, and such like.
I hope that you enjoyed this eBook, and look forward to seeing this book downloaded
again and again.
