Spliethoff was one of the first shipping companies
to install scrubbers on its vessels. It was a major
investment that was not entirely free of risk.

the company’s experiences and the benefits for
the coming years.
Wouter Kruijt, Director IHC Services, opens the
sixth edition of Maritime Industry.

Retrofit market
Retrofitting vessels to meet new requirements
in terms of efficiency, multifunctionality, the
environment, and sustainability will be a major
challenge for shipyards in the future. Frits van
Dongen, Managing Director of Maaskant Shipyards,
will share his views about this growing market.
Safer, smarter, greener
Investing in highly qualified personnel is necessary
to ensure that future projects can continue to
be carried out. Actors in the maritime sector will
have to cooperate to train a sufficient number
of students in the future. Where are the opportunities and challenges?
How can we make the sector safer, smarter and
greener? Increasing legislation and regulations are
making investment and cooperation inevitable.
What challenges do we see and in what specific
ways can improved cooperation lead to greater
