Materials
Yarn: Blue Ridge Yarns Jubilee, 4 - 400yd skeins of Evergreen
Needles: Size 7 (4.50mm) DPNS, size 8 (5.00mm) circular, size 9 (5.50mm) circular, Crochet
hook Size H.
Stitch Markers: Lots of them!
Blocked Size: 90+ inches across
Note: This pattern is circular and requires that you use DPN’s or any method you prefer to
begin the center of the circle. Notations will be put before the beginning of each pattern if there
is a needle change. When the final row is completed, there will be instructions on how to
crochet the shawl off the needles!
This circular shawl is based on Elizabeth Zimmerman’s Pi formula. The best part of knitting in
the round, you will never have to turn your work in progress around to the back!!
Pattern stitches:
k-knit
p-purl
k2tg- knit 2 stitches together
k3tg-knit 3 stitches together
sskp: slip the first stitch, knit the next stitch and pass slipped stitch over the knitted stitch and
off the needle.

pm-place marker
Pattern:
Begin with size 7 DPNs or other method of choice (magic loop, 2 circs).
Cast on 9 stitches, 3 on each dpn. Being very careful, join the circle making sure that the
stitches are not twisted. This will be very noticeable when the shawl is completed.
Knit 1 row.
Increase row: *K1, yo* ending with a total of 18 stitches.
Row 1: knit
Row 2: *k2tg, yo* all the way around.
Row 3: knit
Increase row: *k1, yo* ending with a total of 36 stitches.

Change to Size 8 (5.00mm) Needles

Row 3: *p3, k2, yo, k4, k2tg, k1* repeat * * to end
Row 4: *p3, k3, yo, k4, k2tg* repeat * * to end
Repeat rows 1-4 3 times then:
Knit one row
Increase row: *k1, yo* all the way around with a total of 144 stitches.
At this point you may be able to switch to one circular needle, depending on how tight or loose
you knit.

Now to the bind off of this newly created circular shawl!
You will use your crochet hook and using the last stitch knitted, slip the crochet hook into that
and take off the needle. *Insert the hook into the next stitch on left needled and slip off, two
loops on the crochet hook now. Do a single crochet, leaving one stitch on hook.* Repeat this
process until all the stitches are off the needle. Remember to crochet off you stitches very
loosely otherwise, your edge will be smaller than the actual stitches knitted.
